A-10 Funnies 27
Seems everybody was talking about that Chinese spy balloon (cough cough...Chinese Civilian WEATHER BALLOON!!) that cruised across the ocean, via Alaska, Montana and Missouri (note: all key US Missile bases/ strategic military bases) and cruised to off the Carolina coast before FINALLY being brought down by a F-22 Raptor and a AIM-9 Sidewinder.
People kept asking, why was it allowed to continue across the country? What wasn't it brought down in relatively unhabituated areas earlier. Excuses such as "Falling debris could cause harm to civilians" and "We're monitoring it, jamming its transmissions. " and my favorite of all "But its just a weather balloon that blew off coarse. Why fret about it?"
The close images of the balloon showed a massive array of solar panels, instrument packages and likely camera systems, roughly the size of a couple buses. That was no weather balloon, not studying atmospheric winds/solar conditions, especially something that huge an complicated.
Plus during WW2, The Japanese launched hundreds of balloon bombs towards the US in late 1944-45. Called Fugo balloons, they drifted over along the jet stream and via a complicated timer system, would drop incendiary bombs, hopefully along the West coast to start massive forest fires. A Washington State family was killed when they found a downed balloon and messed with it. It was kept quiet til after the war, fearing it would cause panic among the people, not to mention to the Japanese that their balloons were actually making the journey over the Pacific. They found balloon bombs as far east as Ohio!
But, the Chinese certainly got what they wanted, info. Plus whats not to prevent a more massive incident involving biological agents, released over a key area at some future date. This balloon also pointed out how weak the administration is and unwilling to take action far sooner when it was...safer.
So, since I ignored
oldtiger too long, wanted to do another A-10 funnies strip involving the incident. Sadly, even an A-10 stripped down, can't gain enough altitude and use its GAU-8 Minigun to nail the balloon. But it certainly would have been impressive if it could.

Dang, that was good travel for one of those Balloons.
As a fellow model rocket fan - shame this classic isn't a real vehicle https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I....._AC_SX569_.jpg
Would make short work of high altitude threats.

It was simply mind-baffling to see people seriously arguing that it couldn't be shot down over land because it would hit people. How much of a bubble do you have to live in to think that Montana, and the rest of the US, is as as densely populated as Los Angles?
The government has spent billions of dollars on alert systems, it would have been trivial to broadcast an alert to people in the area to seek shelter if they wanted to with an hour or so of notice and then hit it with a few rounds of inert 20mm. Poke a few holes and let it gently fall to the ground as the balloon deflates. Do it where any misses or overpens will fall into a mountain.

Honestly, if you broadcast something like that, people these days are more likely to go out and gawk at it and film it being shot down than hide away in their homes, making them more vulnerable.
Safety issues aside, I think they were more worried about people running up to inspect it themselves, and even attempting to steal parts of it. You'd have to cordon off a huge area where it would be likely to land, probably by mobilizing the national guard of multiple states, given how fast the jet stream was moving it. It probably wasn't worth the headache to retrieve it in slightly better condition on land.
Sure, shooting it down over the Rockies would have prevented civilian interference, but it would have also made retrieving it much harder, given the typically harsh conditions. Climbing a mountain is hard enough, but bringing a literal bus-load of debris is even harder. Again, not worth the headache.
Shooting it down just off the coast makes it easier to prevent civilian interference and retrieve it once it splashes down. Both these tasks are probably easier for the Coast Guard to handle. Of course, this is just my guess, as I'm a simple civilian with no knowledge of military logistics.
Still, my complaint is that they didn't detect this thing sooner and shoot it down in the waters off the Alaskan Coast or West Coast at the latest, instead allowing it to drift over the whole Continental US before dealing with it.
And in terms of it gathering data, it probably is only slightly better than modern spy satellites that orbit above us all the time. Less clouds blocking the view, slightly better pictures, and that's about it. Sure, it could have been a weapon, but if that was the case, they would have deployed it somewhere over the US before it reached the East Coast. I'm more concerned about all the social data that TikTok is potentially gathering for the Chinese Government than whatever intelligence this thing managed to observe.
Still, this needs to handled better. Any future balloons need to be caught and shot the moment they enter US airspace, in case they are weapons.
Anyway, that's just my opinion. I hope the government soon provides us with more details about what it was and what it was doing, as well as what their plan is to handle any future stray "weather balloons" from other countries, but I'm not holding my breath.

The Defense Department has stated during the Trump misadministration, THREE of those balloons were tracked over the US, but Trump covered it up.

That's the thing- the reports of balloons happening during Trump's time came from one person only and had zero evidence. If the FBI, CIA, Air Force, Navy and Homeland Security didn't know about it, how did this one government official know about it... and not report it?
No, this has the outward appearance of someone trying to sound important got caught and had nothing to back it up, and now may be facing charges if his claim is true. Either way, that official has made a career ending mistake.

Have to agree. I can't see the press, FAA, public and DOD missing something like this. That's even before you consider the potential embarrassment to the prior president. No way the media would have missed something like this served on a silver platter.
Someone at DOD is guilty of major negligence for dereliction of duty or is lying now. Which is more likely?

Shame the Boeing Airborne Laser project was scrapped. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_YAL-1 Had a friend working on that one for a number of years. Paint the instrument package with that beam to fry it then hit the balloon. Balloons operating at that thing's altitude (18 miles) are close to being a low orbiting satellite than an aircraft - but still subject to high altitude winds. Did a quick search on some of the 1950s US projects involving Recon Balloons. Got a chuckle that the envelopes for some were made by General Mills. Wonder how many box tops you would need to get one.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Genetrix
Foreign craft allowed to ENTER our air space w/o permission, was the mistake (and proof Biden's *Reset Amerika* and the military he's compromised, doesn't have any of us protected like we THINK we are) made in the beginning.
I'm with the A-10 on this one. One can of depleted uranium freedom seeds would've been worth it!

Taking kids to drag shows should be stopped.
I posted this to a liberal message board, and the message got nuked.\
The actual pedos are REPUBLICANS.
http://observer.necc.mass.edu/blog/.....ro-pedophilia/
And exactly WHO is handing out anal toys to kids? I want to see actual facts on this.
I'm reminded of the conservatives claiming kids are getting cats' litter boxes.
Those wild stories all turned out to be bullshit.

Hats off to you for calling out the drag show.
Project Veritas nabbed a pedo school administrator he said he was handing out anal toys to kids.
I have no doubt that there are Republicans that took trips to Epstein's magical island.
However, I am talking about child indoctrination.

They are demagogues, and liars who have been sued (and lost) many times.
Show me a CREDIBLE source.
And of course you ignore the list of pedos I posted.
"Child indoctrination" -Translation: Teaching kids up to college level, that there is racism, bigotry, and anti-Semitism.

You are aware that ABC news pays for those people to appear, correct? It's common practice to be paid for your appearance.
Do you really trust anyone blindly that is being paid by a news agency to say things on the air that they want to hear?
ABC News isn't excatly a Guardian of the Truth as they once were. They are more than a bit biased today, as most media outlets are.
Whom else would you offer up?

hehe I hear tripped Biden up the stairs on air force one using his secret Russian cloaking device and made him fall off the bike too it's all trumps fault all part of his evil plan to make progressive cry salty so he could then give back to the Russians it's like heavy water to then trade to the Russian for their new fizzy reactors lol

Sorry, mistook your comment. You are correct. unidentified aircraft are not permitted to enter.
It is standard procedure for the military to intercept (challenge) any "bogie - unidentified" aircraft detected as soon as possible if its course is projected to enter American controlled air space. Most of the time this is tasked to the state's National Guard units. Before improved radar, that supposedly included some high flying birds back in the 50's. (Although that could be just a modern myth)
And aircraft then identified as hostile becomes a vampire and gets a full military fighter response from either the USAF or the appropriate National Guard. Or both.

The Brit's Operation Outward was more effective against the axis. Repurposed weather balloons dragging metal wires to foul and short out powerlines across Fortress Europe. The Luftwaffe had to scramble fighters to intercept, soaking up assets needed to attack allied bomber formations.

Funny how CNN only NOW reports this bit of news. You think they'd have announced it back when it happened to make Trump look bad. They never did like the guy, or MSNBC, and what about the other news talking heads like Joy Behar, Or Don Lemmon, they wouldn't waste a moment in belittling Trump.
You mean jets, and they were intercepted in international airspace about 8 miles from the US Defensive Air Space off the coast of Alaska.
The do the same thing to any of our jets that like to fly along the Russian coastline. Happens about once or twice a year.
As for the balloon claim, it's fiction until and unless they produce some actual proof and explain how everyone managed to miss it at the time.

Dates? Times? Locations?
To make such claims be taken seriously, facts will need to be posted. Then we can find out why nothing was done to alert the public, though I am not sure the public needed to be notified? Or about what actions were or were not taken? A lot of this is unknown what the policy is or should be, leaving all of us guessing.
If you could please post the incident dates and locations for investigation, it would be appreciated.

The jets? These were the last ones I recall that made national news. It's pretty common.

I'm afraid all the Iowa class battleships are now in mothballs, I wish the Wisconsin could be here on Lake Michigan on the shore of Wisconsin.
It was the Iowa that had that terrible accident, and the Navy covered that up.
The biggest battleships though were the Japanese "Yamato" class ships, and our carrier planes pounded both of them into scrap.
There was a third, but it was converted into a carrier, and one of our submarines sank it.

And the Shinano was sunk on her way to another shipyard to be outfitted , with a massive civilian work crew on board. Her self sealing doors weren't even installed, Thus rendering her rapid sinking. To this day she's the largest ship sunk by a sub.

Like many of you I had a lot of questions about this incident, but a lot of them have been answered by Ward Carroll's 6-and-a-half minute long video on YouTube about the incident. Ward Carroll is a retired U.S. Navy F-14 Tomcat RIO, and his videos are very well researched and many of them can be insightful. His videos are also fairly apolitical, so watching this shouldn't further inflame the heated political debates going on in this thread.

He has direct access to the President, has has multiple "guests" from China cone to meet Hunter and his father in private, logs of which exist but not explained. Hunter became very rich shortly afterwards yet having done no work for those companies he represented.
It would take an amazingly clueless idiot to believe nothing happened and that Hunter wasn't compromised.
I don't believe you to be that oblivious or easily fooled.
Hunter should be investigated fully to exonerate him and remove any doubt. Give him the chance to prove nothing is up with that. Explain why private citizens of foreign leadership spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on his "art" yet never picked up the art or wanted it shipped to them.
Let's get it out in the open to avoid any confusion or suspicion. If it is all legit, cool.

You're changing the subject again. That weakens any point you're trying to make and looks like you're trying to avoid answering or being held accountable for your position.
That's the way you're presenting yourself. Probably not your intent, but that's what it looks like to readers.
I would advise toning down the Trump rhetoric on topics that have nothing to do with him, such as this entire incident. It's not Trump's reptuation, but your own that gets damaged with such intense hatred for a single person.

It don't matter who's in charge at the moment. Shoot the damn things down.
All this indecisiveness does, is embolden the creeps in the CCP. Gives them the misguided idea that they can do what they want to other countries. They already abuse their own people, so god help us if they get a hold of our necks.

Not exactly correct. It's not a question of being able to see it. It is a question of the detail.
True you can see a lot from satellites, but not everything. Think of how much more detail you can get with those same cameras if you were closer to the ground. Case in point, with a commercial satellite looking at my home, you could see the window in my bedroom, but no other detail. (Still shocked they could get that much). But get closer and potentially a better angle you can't get from normal orbits; you could likely see me looking out the window.
It is far from much ado about nothing. That leaves out the issue of national sovereignty. You don't just fly your planes, or balloons through another country's airspace. At the very least if it is a "civilian" science project, you TELL them first. When you don't (such as when we flew the SR71 over a target), you can automatically presume its 1) a spy mission, and 2) a legitimate target if you can hit it while in your airspace.

Satellite images are pretty much just straight down. You can get amazing detail of roofs, vehicles, installations, but a 3/4 view or birds' eye view requires lower elevations to see those shadows and what causes them. The balloon has that advantage, plus can be maneuvered when something of interest shows up by going higher or lower for trade winds to navigate with.

Trump is out of office. That time is over.
Trying to use Trump's actions or time in office as a justification for Biden's response doesn't work. Two different presidents.
Let's stick with the present.

You seriously were pulling a HG3300 like what he did when Limbaugh died, treated it as his private Twitter page and going as far to challenge me to block him after I warned him twice. I finally had to, and then he literally tracked me down everywhere bitching at me there, demanding I be banned from those sites as well.
You haven't gone that far, but again, tone it down, stop being the last word in. Accept the fact everybody has an opinion that you may disagree with. Keeping up the insults and shouting makes you look like a 6 year old whos throwing a tantrum.
