TF Drive page 15: Epilogue
Yes, all of this happened BEFORE LUNCH! And yes, I was not allowed a place to sit that day!
The school had this whole thing about fighting back against corporations that wanted to take control of the food offerings. Honestly? They should have let them.
Things wouldn't get much better (indeed, it would be another month or two before I decided to make the chat and its associated website a regular thing), I could tell you so many more little "horror stories" about this place and time (I planned bonus pages if there were more donations)
...but just knowing I had an escape…made it all tolerable.

Yeah, at my high school, the company that ran the cafeteria forced the school to shut down the vending machines that sold sodas and snacks. "The kids need to eat healthy!" ...And then they sold sodas and snacks, just without competition now.
I took my "lunch money" and just kept it, treating it as an allowance instead. Ate at home, sometimes got a drink for lunch, but didn't buy lunch. The food was the cheapest stuff I've ever seen. Nothing like a captive audience to make a company stop caring about quality, right?

It's hilarious to me that, at my old school, the company that ran the cafeteria asked for vending machines (because they were going too quickly through their soda inventory and it's a low-margin item... don't ask me how, old school's cafeteria rules said you weren't allowed to order soda if you didn't already have a "healthy drink" on your tray!)
New school was definitely in the same vein as yours. there was a hookup for a vending machine but I had to buy those oreos through the cafeteria!

They're all are in sugar industry's back pocket.
Back in my "high school" there were free healthy lunches with highly swinging variables in quality, but they also had vending machines and small supermarker around the corner. So whenever there was rubber potatoes that shop was flocked.
Having lunch money completely depended on the kid's parents. I got allowance. I also had a sugartooth that age and yearly visits to the dentist -.-
