Experience -- she's much older and has lived through many world-shattering events. Daryil is still very young as a tri-wing. Even at the time of DMFA, Taun was over 56 thousand years old. Cyra, the next youngest, was only 7 thousand years old. Daryil hasn't even crossed his first centennial of ascension. According to his cast bio, Daryil is only in his 4-thousands.
There's also the fact that Fa'rana believes they are acting in line with Taun's clan's interests; the betterment and preservation of the 'cubi race. They want Taun's clan as an ally, or at least to look upon them with favorable indifference.
They've bollocksed that up MAGNIFICENTLY several times over. :B

To put the time scale in perspective; if Daryil were born in our modern Earth and alive today, he might have seen the dawn of the Mayan civilization. Maybe born around the time that the last mammoths went extinct. He'd have been a few hundred years old when the Epic of Gilgamesh was written.
If Taun were alive today in modern Earth, she'd have been born around the time when human beings were first figuring out flutes and sewing needles. She would have seen the decline of the Neanderthals. She would be older than the bow and arrow.
Daryil is old and powerful, yeah. Taun is a force of nature.

Watsonian answer? Dragons. Also Creatures in general having a vested interest in keeping Being technology levels low, to keep the playing field skewed in Creatures' favor.
Doylist answer? Amber started writing DMFA when they were in their teens-ish, and nobody does great worldbuilding when they're in their teens-ish. :P It's very easy to go "this character has lived for TEN THOUSAND YEARS!" and then only with the wisdom of age to go back and go "oh crap that's a REALLY long time." X3

AFAIK the official explanation is that it's because they have magic, so why bother developing mundane devices when you can already do all that stuff magically? Even Beings can cast offensive spells, though obviously not as well as a Creature.
And that's without the Dragons and other Creatures who see mundane technology as a threat that will unbalance the world order.

Liatai has explained the age and experience gap. To quite Daryil in The Bounty Project, "I've been ascended for less than a century. The other Clan Leaders are all over 7000, so I'm this weird new kid on the block. They don't really trust each other, and now this eccentric new guy has joined their ranks. They don't know what I'm likely to do, and if I was suddenly in charge of a vast empire, that'd be a major shift in the balance of power. I don't want to spook them like that."
There's another aspect to this where I'm hedging my bets because I don't really know how ascension works in terms of power.
We do know that it has got progressively more and more difficult to ascend, and required more and more energy to do so.
What we don't know is whether that would make Daryil the most powerful Tri-Wing because he's had so much energy dumped into him to reach that state, or whether it would make him the weakest because he burned it all up just to scrape past the finish line with precious little left afterwards.
