CHAPTER 47

As Avik entered the house, Regthar continued outside. In the dim light, he made out the stocky silhouette of Droquen, who had stayed by the VTP waiting for his boss.
[“Do you want to come in?”] offered the brown Renzar.
["No. Thank you”] Droquen replied.
【“If I may say, you have the body and strength of a professional Khudok wrestler. Have you ever practiced it?”] Regthar asked.
["I have never practiced it, sir"] The guard replied seriously.
[“You should try”] Regthar suggested.
[“Listen, Mr. Sivem. I'm sorry about what happened last time between us."]
["Oh do not worry. You were just doing your job protecting Avik, I guess… That's what you get paid for, isn't it?”]
["You said it, Mr. Sivem, it's my job"] Droquen declared seriously. In that instant, the Renzar's face completely changed as he saw a female figure approaching them from inside the house.
“Droquen! I saw Mr. Avik inside and I assumed you were with him."
“Re…Relia! What are you doing here?" exclaimed the surprised renzar. But before he could do anything, the polar bear had already pounced on him, giving him a tight hug.
"Ops... I'll leave them alone" Regthar commented to get away from them a few meters.
"Hey? Relia… what a surprise!” said the guard a little confused.
“Holly and Rena are friends of Mr. Regthar's family. And since I am living with them, I decided to accompany them. It has all been very terrible. I hope that boy appears and his skunktaur mate recovers soon ”
“Uh… I know that a Renzar salvage team from our delegation is also helping out. I am sure that there will be results soon” indicated Droquen.
"I've thought a lot about you these days, Droquen"
"Hey? Oh really?"

At the Amistad hospital, Chakat Lorna continued in the waiting room attentive to any news regarding Lilethe's state of health. The last medical report indicated that the skunktaur was still stable, but doctors suspected significant brain damage of unknown origin. So they were waiting for more in-depth neural studies.
Sadness reigned in Lorna's heart. Esteban was a very dear friend to shi. Shi had promised hirself to protect him whenever shi could. Shi paced from one side of the room to the other trying to understand why these things happened to Esteban. At that moment, a Chakat nurse came up behind hir.
“I am very sorry for what has happened,” shi said in a calm voice. Lorna, looking at hir, was surprised.
"Moosy!"
"Yes, hello"
Lorna looked at hir awkwardly. Shi did not expect to meet shi.
“I know you must think badly of me and you are right… I acted shamefully while Lilethe worked here.”
“You tried to take advantage of hym!”
"I know and I'm sorry!"
“Moosy, I don't want to talk about it. The important thing for me now is Lilethe. If you don't have anything new to tell me about hym, then I'd rather wait alone, if you don't mind!” Lorna said decisively.
“Yes, whatever you say… I… I'll go. It's just…I'm worried about Lilethe…Hy is…” Moosy said before leaving the room with hir tail lowered. Lorna felt the nurse's sadness and went after shi.
“Hey… I didn't mean to be rude to you. Please try to understand,” Lorna said.
"I understand," Moosy said, before continuing down the hall. Lorna looked at hym remorsefully, but shi didn't dare say anything else. Shi returned to the waiting room, to continue hir vigil at the hospital.

At the renzar's, Avik sat next to Sorah, holding her tenderly.

"Hello Dad. Thanks for coming"

"Daughter. I am very sorry for what happened with Esteban and Lilethe. Everything will be fine"

"Thank you. Dad… I don't know if you know, but… Mom is here too”

"What? Varta?”

"Yes... Please... I don't want trouble in my house again"

"Oh no! There won't be any problems daughter... Don't worry." He hastened to say the male, to then look everywhere for his ex-partner.

“I want you two to treat each other with respect, at least while you remain in Chakona,” Sorah added.

“I promise I'll try,” Avik grumbled, stroking his daughter's head.

Minutes later, the Chakat rescue chief, Cors Taruk'Nat and Trend arrived at the house. All three had a serious countenance. They asked to speak quickly with Regthar and Sorah. Everyone was expectant for the news of the rescue. When they were assembled, Chief Chakat declared.

“Mr. Regthar, Mrs. Sorah… I regret to inform you that… We found remains of your son and the chances that he is alive are practically nil. I'm so sorry."

“What!... What are you talking about! What remains!” Regthar asked incredulously.

“Regt, friend. Renzar rescuers located a marine predator several kilometers out to sea. They captured it and carefully examined it. And inside they found…” Trend said sadly, his voice rueful.

“[We found human remains in its stomach. The toe of one foot to be exact. DNA analysis indicates that... The sample belong to your missing son. The conclusion of the experts is definitive… Esteban Siven was devoured by aquatic predators]” Taruk finally added in the Marlock language.

Hearing the news, Sorah fainted in shock, being held up by Avik and Varta, who looked at each other in shock. Everyone present was shocked. Some began to cry.

"Nooo!... No!... Tell me it's not true!... Trend! Are you sure?!” Regthar inquired desperately.

"The experts have no doubt, friend... I'm very sorry" The police chief replied, with tears in his eyes.

“Traces of human DNA were also found in the area… The experts' conclusion is clear. I'm sorry” Chief Chakat added, closing hir eyes and lowering hir ears.

Regthar felt everything darken around him. His thick feet trembled and were no longer able to support him. He went forward, holding onto Trend and Ulk. They both hugged him trying to comfort him, while several of those present burst into tears.

Regthar's heart clenched. He couldn't breathe normally. Suddenly a roar of pain escaped his throat, and then he began to cry uncontrollably.

Rena and Holly hugged sobbing. Relia cried into Droquen's chest. Avik and Varta held their daughter Sorah and at the same time held hands. Everyone could feel the pain of the news, and the bitter crying of afflicted hearts.

The world changed in that instant, for the family and friends of that strange and kind boy, who some time ago had come from Terra hoping to grow as an engineer, and who had ended up conquering the hearts of everyone around him. .

"Poor Lilethe... What a pain it will be for hym when hy finds out the news" Rena commented in the ears of hys daughter Holly, while they both hugged each other more tightly, that cold night in Amistad.

On the distant planet Vika-B, a group of Federation emissaries descended on Krikar's base to speak with Lieutenant Ugkar Skunktaur. They asked to be alone in one of the modules of the building. Aldorah Krim looked at them with curiosity and embarrassment, recognizing an old colleague from the Federation intelligence service, of which she had once been a part.

At times, the Rakshani watched the conversation grow tense, with Ugkar yelling epithets all over the place. At one point, the skunktaur furiously pounded its fists on the table. After a few more minutes of dialogue, the federal delegates withdrew from the base towards the ship. Aldorah approached Ugkar and was surprised to see hym with tears in hys eyes. The female quickly hugged hym in anguish.

“What is happening Ugkar? What happens?" she asked hym. But Ugkar would not stop sobbing. Aldorah tried to comfort him for long minutes, the skunktaur couldn't speak and his telepathy seemed off. After almost half an hour, the lieutenant had calmed down enough.

“Aldorah… Esteban died in Chakona”

"What! But how!"

"Those who came are from Federal Intelligence"

“I know, Ughkar. I recognized one of the chakats."

"Esteban, died for defending Lilethe from the attack of a skunk like me... A hybrid!" Ugkar mentioned sadly.

“But… how is that possible! That boy…” Aldorah inquired in disbelief.

“That skunk, hy's still loose in Chakona. Neither the police nor the Federation have been able to locate and capture hym. They want to do it as soon as possible to avoid more tragedies and they have asked me for help."

"To you?"

In that instant, Ugkar raised his head and looked the Rakshani square in the eye.

“Aldorah, you were part of federal intelligence. And like them, you know my abilities very well. I'm the only one capable of finding it."

"But that can be dangerous, Ugkar!"

“I have to… For Esteban, and also for Lilethe, who is still in a coma in a hospital because of that bastard… I knew something was wrong in Chakona… I had dreams, Aldorah… And I couldn't do anything… Nothing to save Esteban this time" Ugkar said, while the tears began to flow again. Aldorah hugged hym tightly feeling the sadness in the heart of her lifemate.

“Oh, Ugkar, I'm so sorry… None of this is your fault… You understand, right? I am Rakshani, and I understand your feelings very well... Listen to me... If this trip to Chakona will make you feel better, go help capture that skunktaur... But take care... I can't accompany you this time.

“I know. Thank you for understanding” Ugkar said as hy rested hys head on Aldorah's lap. In the darkness of the room, the skunktaur saw on the table, the diadem that Esteban had given hym before traveling to Vika-B.

“Oh Esteban, I am honored to call you brother, you gave your life to fulfill the task that I entrusted to you: to take care of my clan. Taking care of Lilethe... You are My friend” Ugkar thought silently, while Vika hid behind the mountains, throwing the last golden rays of light into the sky.
