Once the photo is taken everyone goes to start packing into the van. As I start heading over to go and get out stuff I find that Lumen has apparently moved to walk alongside me. I eye him warily, wondering if I should use quick attack to put some distance between us but he knows where we put our stuff anyway so I just settle on a nice jog.

“You still don’t trust me, do you?” he asks, keeping pace.

“Can you blame me? Look, I trust you for tonight because what we want happens to align. This is probably a really big payday for you and I need information that only they can provide. But I saw you attacking humans as well.”

“We’ve been granted some special permissions for this particular mission. A consolation for not bringing in the entire force on this mission.”

“So then what happens if I become an inconvenient truth for the mayor? What if I am an uncomfortable burden on his chances of reelection? What guarantees do I have now that you wouldn’t just barge in and take me out while I’m in my human form, completely bypassing Maria and the others?” I ask as I half put on my harness, enough to be able to move in it. Lumen grabs Maria’s coat and backpack and we head back.

Most of the jog back to the van is done in silence, Lumen apparently trying to come up with a valid response but being unable to do so. When we get back to the group he hands Maria her stuff. She puts her backpack on as we climb into the van before taking it off again to stow under her seat. I tell the driver where the next location I know of is before hopping in as well. The truck starting to move to where the second base is.
