This month's prompt was particularly hard, by all rights it was going to be an otter. Then in last month's prompt,
AlextheReaper suggested I draw an ocelot, which planted the seed of going off the beaten path again....and it went downhill from there....
I (briefly) considered drawing an ocelot, and dismissed it; the next option was opossum, but my rock band Hemlock has an opossum in it, and she's in quite a lot of the pages of the latest Mason Motors' Speed Week Adventure series; from then I thought about the oryx and this very nearly was the winner, but I got bogged down with what type of oyrx (front runner was the Arabian oryx). At the same time, I started thinking about November's prompt, getting further bogged down with the details and in desperation, I just googled "animals starting with an O". In the list of options I saw the "olingo". In reading up on the olingo (and yes, FA has a tag for olingo), I saw the entry for an "olinguito" (which apparently are a different species, but are related) and found out they populate the cloud forests of Columbia and Ecuador. I immediately thought about this drawing from
Kalahari although I didn't know it was the olinguito he'd drawn. Another thing I found out was that olinguito are procyonids (yep, they're from the raccoon family). Interesting....
In addition to the problems with coming up with an animal for this month, I was also still working on that story scenario I'd mentioned in my last upload. The main character of that being an opossum so there's also that.
This drawing was started Thursday and finished today (and yes, it was very rushed).
