Holy art changes, Batman!
But seriously. If those of you who read the original haven't already figured it out, this comic is a sequel. The first comic, 'Cruelty', can be read here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3704554/
You can try to follow this comic without reading the original, but I won't lie, you'll be missing a lot.
Drawing Marcus and Reis in color was very. . . different. And I have to say, I'm enjoying the simpler coloration style, as opposed to Red Lantern, which is like. . . an endurance trial. So much fur.
Most of the fur shading for Unconditional will be done traditionally, in the original sketch. I'm hoping the different style appeals to all. I didn't want it to look exactly like Red Lantern.
And now, the disclaimer! READ, or you have no right to complain!
- This comic will contain adult content, swearing, violence, death, and some very difficult political and social subject matter. If you're the sort of sensitive person who can't handle that, this comic is not for you.
- Not ALL of the content in this comic will be posted online. I'll be withholding one of the adult scenes from the online release, reserved for the eventual print release. HOWEVER. Just like 'Cruelty', this comic WILL have one full adult scene posted online. Any complaints about the withheld content will be ignored, and likely scorned by the folks who DO enjoy what's posted online. So don't be an ass.
- This comic is GAY. GAY GAY GAY GAY GAY! I cannot express this ENOUGH, seeing as there was some confusion with 'Cruelty'. This comic follows the storyline of 'Cruelty' regardless of which 'path' you took, but it is assumed the characters eventually began a relationship. The comic deals with gay issues, as well as a gay relationship. Deal with it, or GTFO.
That felt good.
For everyone remaining. . . enjoy! I have NO idea how often I'll post pages, so don't expect a regular update schedule like Red Lantern.
And yes, I WILL continue to post Red Lantern. No worries :)

From now on, I do THIS to anyone who tries this again. Please leave the comments section for what it was intended for: comments on the IMAGE. It is not a sounding board for you to vent your frustrations about life, Iraq, this fandom, or me.
Thank you and good night.

HAH, this is too great. All those "comment hidden by the page owner" boxes are like little metaphorical severed heads on spears out in front of your metaphorical mud hut, as a warning sign to the annoying metaphorical missionaries who come to the village square.
(...on another note, I'm so excited that Marcus and Reis are back, I might just explode in a fit of fiery gayness.)

mememememememe!!!:
the fat that the comic will content death is kind of the plot of the story owo???
also, I've readed Cruelty more or less... well... a month ago... I've recognized your style and I liked it, but knowing your style, I wanted to ask you if there's a way to get Cruelty this far.

This shall definitely be something new to keep up w/, I rather enjoyed reading "Cruelty" online and can't wait to see how this sequel pulls out with twists and turns because it seems like it has the possibility of showing a hint of, "Was I right in what I decided?" kind of remorse. Or almost a sense of regret of giving in. Either way, can't wait to see what new challenges await the characters ^^
Just out of curiosity, how are we at a point where gay marriage is a cliche? It's still illegal in most of the nation, and it's not a topic I see addressed as often as it should be.
There was a clear disclaimer posted on the comic. If these subjects annoy you, the artist seems to have made it clear at the get-go to avoid reading. Based on this and your above comment, you seem like you're trying to stir up drama just for the sake of it, and the comic's only on page one. Try and be polite.

LOL how is it cliche? Have you been watching the news lately? It's the hot topic right now, and it features in EVERY gay "slice of life" comic out there. I'm gay too, but I'm tired of people pretending they can write original content when all they really do is recycle the same perspectives on gay life. I'd like to see something fresh and innovative--show me a gay couple raising children and struggling to help them feel accepted, or a gay partnership trying to handle normal relationship issues in healthy, non-sappy ways.
The whole "so and so gets harassed at high school/college and feels bad, and ZOMG there's injustice in the world" storyline has been dipped into way too many times, especially here on FA. It comes in second only to locker room gangbangs, in fact. I know the average plebeian is content to just see hawt furrehs get drawn, but for those of us who pay attention to the writing, we'd like to see something with a fresh story. That's not trolling, it's just wishful thinking

It looks great, Rukis. Nice disclaimer, bye the way and thank you once again for sharing your amazing talents with the rest of us here, in the audience. I'm looking forward to seeing this story unfold. Also, I hope to see you at FC in January. It'll be my first con in a few years and I'm wanting to pick up a copy of Red Lantern, if it is finished by that time. Have a good one. ^^
I have to say I really did enjoy 'Cruelty' all the things it showed about being different and not fitting in was very well done. Yes it did leave me hanging wondering where the tale would go... You know you are doing a good job when a lesbian wants to know how it works out!

Rukis,
Pardon me asking this. But will this comic by the drawn storyline we were able to read beforehand about Cruelty? As I read a storyline that was the sequel about Cruelty. (Will not post spoilers here) Yet I am curious if this will indeed be that storyline you presented us from before.
And do not worry about cliché or not cliché. Even the most clich storylines can be very suprising if the writer knows where to take the plot and seeing how Red Lantern is going, I am more then positive that this story will blow many people's minds. (Yes pun intended for this story too.)

This comic is GAY. GAY GAY GAY GAY GAY! I cannot express this ENOUGH, seeing as there was some confusion with 'Cruelty'.
The mind boggels that there was any confusion at all, even from people who are completely illiterate. You'd think all the gay sex would've tipped them off.

At least I wasn't the only one thinking that. LOL Like whoa, how dense would you have to be?
But HOORAY for sequel! And i rather like the simplified style. I think it ought to work well. Love Red Lantern being as much a detailed piece of eye candy as it is, but this also looks nice and has GOT to be easier to deal with! Your style still shows through quite well. :)

I loved and still love "Cruelty". I love these two. Please, please, please promise the death will not be either of them or their love for each other. Ok I know you can't answer that publicly without giving away the story, just know you will have one VERY VERY tramatized fan if it should happen.
Thier love gave me so much hope for the finding of true love, and I did find it so I would feel really sadden to learn they break up or one of them dies.
Otherwise, sooooo looking forward to this comic and totally understand the part of not all included scenes.

Now that I can properly see this now that I done shopping and on my computer, (Lots to stuff into that box!), I can say that I like this a lot. Going from black and white and into color on one panel really feels likes, "Here comes the changes; will we be ready?"
At least there isn't any rain! That's the most overuse literary device used to signal change, eheh.

You know.. this reverberates through my soul for some reason- perhaps its the wolf spirit in me.. Yes.. I am a therian, can only identify myself as such.. and this very spirit has been awakened over the past couple years and the more I see art like this, it stirs the spirit even more.. your art conveys the raw emotions of the characters, as well as the choice of words. Its due to be a timeless classic, speaking to those that have that inner animal souls yearning to be freed. I cant express in words what the wolf in me is saying with ease- for it takes lots of resources out of my human side to convey in the textual format for the wolf to speak, (He tends to be the "vocal"" one.. unlike me.. where my strength is writing and typing my feelings) hard to explain in laymans' terms.. other than I feel other Therian and Otherkin perhaps will understand... but I can at least try without wiping me out. I dont mind a little cartoony story, but when it emits true raw feeling and emotion from its pages, its like it "speaks" to me, or the reader.. Rukis, Keep up the good work.. You have that creativity I really admire in the fandom, one of the few I do.. and its saying alot that I really am glad I had the honor of meeting you at MFF, even if it was to say hi, in passing, you have your time, can respect that.. I am in the process of writing a story myself, and it is my hope that I can "draw" well with my words as well as you do with a pencil and paper to make your comics.. I'm so looking forward to buying Red Lantern.. and this one as well.. Thanks for the inspiration

PS- For those aspiring to be just as good- you can do it, let your emotions pour into your work..I'll gladly watch you..

I like the transition from B/W to color...very creatively done I think. An unnecessary step, but one that lends continuity. Looking forward to this comic as I am to the release of Red Lantern...just hope I can buy RL when it comes out. Hopefully it will remain available afterward in case I can't?
Anyway, glad to see another comic, you must be a busy chick.

But I want to hold my biased, close-minded beliefs and post about my outrage on your page that is on a website that commonly has non-G-rated material because I think you should follow my standards!
...lol. but in all seriousness though, I love your comics and look forward to the new pages each week, even if I am a straight fur :3 Your storylines and drawings are wonderful! I like how you color Red Lantern, but I'm also enjoying the more whimsical look of this sequel..

I really love your comics. Its a pitty I discovered you sooner, instead of years later so I had alot of material to enjoy at once. Then again, the weekly page of X comic you're working on is going pretty good for me. and your subjects are traumatic enough for your characters so the story is compelling. your artwork is pretty much my favorite out of anyone.
by the way, Was cruelty ever released in .pdf or some digital format? I read it online but I would like to pay for a copy... and getting this stuff for delivery isn't a great idea due to the fact I live with a prudish and very christian mother. the computer is the only place I have the privacy to a degree that I can be openly gay and enjoy this kind of material.
PS. death... your mention of it worries me. I enjoy Marcus and Reis as characters so much. I hope the death part isn't referring to either of them o.0

Oh I am so excited for this. ^^ I really like the coloring style you're showing here and talking about using for this, it looks like it'll be really neat. I can certainly understand you wanting to use a different and less ambitious approach than Red Lantern!
Dear lord it's finally here!!! Thank you so much Rukis! Cruelty brought me into the fandom and opened me up to so much more, and when I heard you were going to do a sequel, I couldnt stand the thought of waiting till AC 2012!!! This is going to be absolutely epic!!! Love yah! *goes to read cruelty 10 times*
Just crashed through Cruelty -- both versions, and I thought it was clever how you made the last page ambiguous enough to fit either 'path' without actually changing the dialogue -- and I'm excited to see a sequel in the works. I've only recently opened up to m/m relationship possibilities, so this is the first gay comic I've actually let myself read all the way through, and I really enjoyed it. I love the characters, and I'm eager to see more. :3
Hey Rukis, was wondering if you could clarify: is Marcus snoring in the last frame? I just went on telling all my friends how excited I was, and how funny I found the intro because of how accurately it portrays fresh-out-of-high-school relationships (Day Zero: "I could never be more happy!" Day One Hundred and Four: "Just kill me already.") and then thought "wouldn't it be funny if that was completely wrong?"
Hmm... not necessarily, I mean people's tongues don't always stick out of their mouths. My dog snores all the time and her tongue stays stationary XP Also his snoring would explain Reis's face of aggravation, unless he's not aggravated and that's just my interpretation. Or he's aggravated about something else? >.> Ack, I can't wait!
RUKIS. I have to giggle a bit. I adore your art. And I am excited to see how this comic pans out.
I stared at this page in awe....then I got to the bottom panel...and with my boyfriend sitting next to me, I asked him:
'How in the hell do those two share one pillow?'
We laughed. BUT, I guess Reis and Marcus are the type of sleepers who don't move much.

Marcus! <3 <3 <3 Btw loved the disclaimer, very well said! Also as some others have said; death? That's deep! This already looks to be very serious comic. I will very much so look forward to seeing this. And as always I will be buying a copy or two soon as it's in print. Thanks for bringing this back to life.
Although the artwork is beautiful, I disagree with the idea of the characters getting married. As you see, the homosexual agenda is being pushed on to children too fast nowadays. Children as young as 5 are being taught that being gay is okay; although I don't hate gay people, children need to learn that breeding is important for the human race. Also, it teaches christian 5 year old as such as my lovely nephew that its okay to be gay. In reality, if gay people were to act normal like myself and billions of other people in the world, there wouldn't need to be such as push for their rights.
Also, marriage has been defined between a man a women in millions of different cultures for thousands of years
Also, marriage has been defined between a man a women in millions of different cultures for thousands of years
Behaviorally, homosexuality creates a high level of social discord beginning with public bathrooms. Previously separated by gender to preserve personal privacy and eliminate sexual attraction, they now become a state of chaos when it's not just the opposites attracted to one another. Consider the objections of couple subject to a “pat down” by a gay policeman. Also there’s depression resulting from rejection by a majority of the population who oppose homosexually, amplified when impressionable children are exposed to a lifestyle parents disagree with, who recognize how it terminates family legacies, and knows that it increases health care costs and a shortened life spans.
On a biological level, homosexuality is dysfunctional, ignoring that life is sexually transmitted, and introduces human waste into the reproduction system which is reprehensible.
