Originally from the Amazon River Basin in South America, these tree ducks are not strong swimmers, but are excellent flyers! Heavy and large, they lack the oil glands found in other ducks that waterproof their feathers. They are said to be delicious and were imported all over the world for that reason. they are EXTREMELY friendly and affectionate towards people. I have had wild ones crawl up in my lap and snuggle! They are known known for the ugly red, "Tumors" around the eyes and bills. These knots can get so thick and heavy that they obscure the eyes, but they are totally NORMAL for this species and cause them no trouble at all. Their feathers are black and/or white and have an iridesent sheen to them.. They make GREAT pets.
