A lot of them have asymmetrical/more dog-like markings and darker fur (which IRL comes from interbreeding from dogs, though I'm coming at it that the domestic melanistic trait had to start somewhere). Admittedly, it's not super noticeable except for a few pages and I'll probably go back and punch it up a bit more if this volume ever makes it to print.
makes sense! i figured it was something like that but wasnt sure if it was a colours/markings thing or texture/shape/etc (like how the fox domestication experiments had started to develop curling tails).
(fingers crossed book three can happen!! id love to have it on my shelf with the others, but i understand the printing and shipping situation is a mess these days)
