sers is optomistic about grey's prognosis. surely this isn't some freakish mutated form of pneumonia, right?
RIGHT?
poor kyo, everyone just assumes you're an idiot and so tries to keep you in the dark as to your friend's health concerns.

kyo's not exactly stupid, just frequently treated that way by 'more worldly' people. he's trilingual (at least passably, though his third langauge isn't fluent) and well read. he reads a lot of off-world books, too.
he just doesn't present as intelligent, between the depression, the drinking problem and the slangy speech.

That makes perfect sense all around. I always noted he liked to read at home, which is a fav of mine too. The Massacre, directly or indirectly, probably put the cabash on any college aspirations he had.
I also speculate that his innate good nature is why he didn't join a nasty street gang and get a rapid cynical education that way.

Well now that I think about it, Kyo never had much luck being treated as intelligent as he actually is by people of the opposite sex.
Sure, he dated a girl who could put on a performance with him in the hospital, his sister thought highly of him at one time and these two seem patient with him. But nothing ever seems to last for him.
I wonder how his luck will fare when he meets the people his sister works with?

depends on your mutation. if it's a species-jump issue, then that doesn't usually affect antibiotic resistance (and now that I think about it, bacteria don't have much trouble with jumps between relatively similar species, it's viruses where that's a big deal). and if vaccines are near-ubiquitous, then antibiotic resistance is less a worry as well (high vaccination rates = lower use of antibiotics = less chance for resistance to develop). so no reason for a doctor to suspect anything out of the ordinary. still a good idea to send for culture.
also: Sers claws boggle me. HOW CAN SHE TYPE?! or pick her nose, or or or... (i always wonder this about people with very long nails)
