Sorry. That really dates me. Look up "Johnny Hart," and his popular syndicated comic strip "B.C." The artist himself, Alas has been dead for many years, but his comics are still being printed in some daily newspapers.

Ah, okay, just checking :) It's a series that's sort of "Harry Potter but 20-something, cynical, and informed by net.culture." They make heavy use of clock-in-tree symbolism in the second book. Good dark fantasy stuff.
