This comic is a sequel! The first comic, 'Cruelty', can be read here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3704554/
Posting this disclaimer on every page, so no one can say they didn't see it. No need to read it if you already have, it's just for newcomers:
- This comic will contain adult content, swearing, violence, death, and some very difficult political and social subject matter. If you're the sort of sensitive person who can't handle that, this comic is not for you.
- Not ALL of the content in this comic will be posted online. I'll be withholding one of the adult scenes from the online release, reserved for the eventual print release. HOWEVER. Just like 'Cruelty', this comic WILL have one full adult scene posted online. Any complaints about the withheld content will be ignored, and likely scorned by the folks who DO enjoy what's posted online. So don't be an ass.
- This comic is GAY. GAY GAY GAY GAY GAY! I cannot express this ENOUGH, seeing as there was some confusion with 'Cruelty'. This comic follows the storyline of 'Cruelty' regardless of which 'path' you took, but it is assumed the characters eventually began a relationship. The comic deals with gay issues, as well as a gay relationship. Deal with it, or GTFO.

Okay, I noticed something, in the last few pages, page 31, in the last two panels, his pupils dilate plus the italicized 'What?' which means it was probably bad news, or at least shocking news. Then, in the next page, page 30, his ears are moved back, and he says '...no, thank you, no one else would have called' plus, its his probation officer, and I believe he would have know Reis's mother as well. And yea, it is implied earlier (the day prior) that he doesn't have time to talk to his mom, I'm guessing it might show what the message he got from her said, which is either a distress call, or a goodbye call. He has a tendency to lash out when something depressing happens to him. in the comic 'Cruelty' , Reis over reacts when Tobias and Keith show up, the morning after he confessed his feelings to Marcus. Which means he would have been put on edge by his mom's passing, and then Lou pushed him over, metaphorically of course.
Here it comes. :(
I'm betting it was his Mother dying....Something tells me she committed suicide....It might explain why she was trying to call him. Reis is probably suffering from extreme guilt at having not answered the phone when his mother was trying to call.
Damnation, whatever is going to happen next is going to be really sad. :(

I think this pretty much solidifies the suspicion that Reis' mother died. He is NOT taking this well. And can't blame him, really. She had tried to call him the day before. He prolly feels that if he'd answered, she'd still be alive. But that's an unfair amount of responsibility to place on himself. He has no way of knowing whether or not that would have made any difference in the outcome.
Yeah, it'd sort of fit...Think about it for a moment....She's been in and out of jail for years, has been addicted to lord alone knows what and obviously has more then a few demons haunting her.
Then her Son up and moves away....The one person that loved her despite her problems....And thus loses touch with said emotional anchor...That last call was probably her trying to contact her Son as a sort of, 'Please help me!' call....On the one hand she's wanting to commit suicide....On the other hand she doesn't want to die and thus probably called the one person who actually cared about her. (As referenced by Reis when he told his old Parole Officer know one else would have bothered to call.) and would have probably been able to talk her out of it....Hanging up on her in that hour of need could have pushed her into committing suicide.
However the ONE little thing that gives me any sort of hope is usually....Well people who call someone for the purpose of calling out for emotional help typically don't want to die and at the last possible minute/second avoid killing themselves.
The call COULD have been Reis's old Parole Officer calling to tell Reis his mothers in the hospital after trying to commit suicide....Which is still pretty damn bad...
One can hope anyway....Given how Rukis seems to be dropping all sorts of possible 'Bad Endings' on us. (The Protest Scene where people thought something extremely violent was about to happen that would result in someone getting killed. And the bit where Marcus was crossing the road.) Could mean this is a similar 'Brush' with death.
We'll find out in the next update for sure though....And for me at least...The tension is KILLING me.

Rukis plain and simple said "there will be a death" now I won't also rule out the Mother..but I mean in the old comic I don't think much was said about the father...but the 2 years that passed from the first comic till this one..The mother as you said could be dealing with demons..
I know Rukis said there will be death in this comic....I'm both expecting and dreading it.
And no, nothing was ever said of the Father. You get a very strong feeling that Reis's mother was in fact a single Mother...Factor in the drugs and the fact that the Mother had a pretty bad reputation in their town to the point where no one other then Reis's old Parole Officer called him about it....The only one who likely cared whether she lived or died lived hundreds of miles away....Yeah...Not good at all. :(

More food for thought...I think it was mentioned somewhere that Reis is a mixed breed canine....Not 100% sure on that but if it's true...Well the implications regarding the Mother and her pattern of behavior and the Father are quite telling.....
*Sighs*
This comic is really depressing when you read inbetween the lines. :(

Shit. Now I have to question if I want to keep reading this comic or not. Unfortunately, I feel entirely too sympathetic for Reis - to the point that reading the last five pages just now has actually given me a headache, because I know what his situation is like (I've never hit anyone in my life, but...). You're damned good at stirring and evoking emotion, Rukis. Too damned good.
Of course, that being said, I know my curiosity will get the better of me, and I will read the next one. Although this almost certainly seals the deal - I will be donating when I can, I just can't for now. Hopefully soon.

Im not sure if im at all correct in saying this but, have you changed the way you draw Marcus at all? It could just be me but i feel that his muzzle is shorter as of late and his facial structure seems a little softer, a little more..well not plump but more fitting. If so it looks great, if not then i will shut up. ^^
yeah, he DOES look different... like in the past 7-10 pages he is looking different
Look back up to "Cruelty" and see the whole improvement and the amount of changes he have been trough (he lost a great amount of fluffy-ness xD )... Well... actually the improvement Rukis have been though, since she is the artist and all...

Telling a story is not the easiest thing to do. Sometimes, bad things happen. It's realistic, as it's not a fairytale with a fairytale ending where everyone lives happily ever after and as if nothing wrong ever happened. I think it takes a strong person to put a story together as powerful as this is one is showing to be.
I think we all are, I, personally, find it FUN to torture my characters... I want to try to do a comic about my character Kraeos and his pantheon and everything the Gods of my world went through... Kraeos has some pretty bad crap happen to him... So does my character Ioren! *snugs him*
One and three-quarters....... One and a half.......... One and three-eighths........... one and five-sixteenths......
FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh...man. He must have snapped and crossed a line somewhere. I've had post-fight breakdowns before, and they are not pretty. They wreck havoc on the psychie, and for Reis, it's even worse, given that it wasn't even a two way fight; he pummeled Lou through the apologies, completely overcome with rage. This dregs up unpleasent memories...
Reis is such a good guy, Has temper issues but is a good guy. He stands up for his friends even when it could be argued that they got him fired or had done him wrong, he still stands by him. A true man um wolf.
I love how you do everything Rukis keep up your god worthy work

If it happends to be his mother the call was about his fourm is very understandable here. Yet I can't excuse his behavior with Lou. Honestly if I'd been some random asshole I'd of said who cares, I would of most likely done it my self. But with Lou I can't help but feel sorry for him. It's clear by what Reis says and the way he behaved abound Ries that he did try to be his friend, something Reis does not have a lot of. When I first seen him at the start of this comic I honestly just did not like him; yet now I hope for more interaction between him and Reis. It would be nice to see Reis apologize for his actions. Now as Ive said before I hope he does not use this inner anger and prone to violence on Marcus.
So, quick cool story bro. First..Rukis, i've totally been sucked in. I liked red lantern but this hits a lot closer to home for me. The csb is my mate Kat hit a guy on a bike the other day (the day you posted the kiss at work piece). Bicyclist in the road, no reflective gear, next thing you know hes hitting the windshield and on the pavement. No idea how the guy is. Really scared what this is gonna do to this, how my bf is gonna handle it (hes ok now) etc. That, and on the way home from work (kat went to work to keep himself busy) the alternator on the car dies. So, i'm stressed out, hysterical that the guy will die and kat will get in trouble (I want the guy to be ok, not trying to be selfish, but i worry about my mate). Were still dealing with it, no money now, just...really fucked up, feel sick still now and then...
So, through it all, part of what has helped me take my mind off of it is this comic. The conversations i've gotten into and read, plus its just a phenominally GOOD comic. The art is awesome, the expressions etc etc and the realness of it. These characters, despite being anthro, are so damned human.
So thank you for giving us this great comic and for helping give me something that helps take my mind off of whats going on.
And thanks for Reis, he reminds me of Kat. and thank you for lou because lou is awesome, and im glad he and Reis are ok.

Not sure if you take creative critisism or this is "already done" like Red Lantern, though I think Marcus left eye (right on the picture) looks a bit off. I think it's because the pupil of the other is "stuck" while this one is in the middle, and it looks, slightly bad.
Just think it might look a bit better if both pupils are on equal positions.
I just notice it so much because the rest does look great, and it's slightly distacting.
