I just want to again thank everyone who donated, and who reads and supports this comic. Your support, whether financial or emotional, is why I'm able to work night and day towards this AC deadline. Here's hoping we make it.
This comic is a sequel! The first comic, 'Cruelty', can be read here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3704554/
Posting this disclaimer on every page, so no one can say they didn't see it. No need to read it if you already have, it's just for newcomers:
- This comic will contain adult content, swearing, violence, death, and some very difficult political and social subject matter. If you're the sort of sensitive person who can't handle that, this comic is not for you.
- Not ALL of the content in this comic will be posted online. I'll be withholding one of the adult scenes from the online release, reserved for the eventual print release. HOWEVER. Just like 'Cruelty', this comic WILL have one full adult scene posted online. Any complaints about the withheld content will be ignored, and likely scorned by the folks who DO enjoy what's posted online. So don't be an ass.
- This comic is GAY. GAY GAY GAY GAY GAY! I cannot express this ENOUGH, seeing as there was some confusion with 'Cruelty'. This comic follows the storyline of 'Cruelty' regardless of which 'path' you took, but it is assumed the characters eventually began a relationship. The comic deals with gay issues, as well as a gay relationship. Deal with it, or GTFO.

The biggest heart clench in this scene is how he looked as he said
"All he did when I hit him was apologize.."
You can see it, can't you? The deck of cards is tumbling down. Right now his entire world is being torn asunder, and the only thing he can hear is the roar of his thoughts as the world spins around him.

Damn the suspense!
At least Lou's okay....Still you can see Reis is horrified by what he did to his friend.
And hell Panel 2.....Reis's expression....
On the one...Well I guess high note we get a good look at Lou's character through Reis explaining what happened. Even when getting clocked by Reis he still apologized and refused to fight back....That takes a lot and speaks volumes about the substance of his character.
Hopefully we see more Lou...

I hate to say it, but Marcus ought to be thinking about ending this relationship. This is now the third time Reis has completely lost control and attacked someone purely over words, and in this case the victim wasn't even trying to get him angry.
With a personality like that, it's only a matter of time before he starts abusing Marcus.

Words can hurt just as much if not more than physical actions. When someone throws an insulting word at you, especially after you just got a phone call like that, you're going to be quick to fight or flight. It's an instinctual reaction, not so much a choice. Lou just said the wrong thing at the wrong time.
That's simply not true. Most people have been deliberately provoked and not responded physically, regardless of stress or emotional problems. That "oh, he didn't mean it, he just had a bad day" attitude is part of what lets abusers get away with it so long. Reis has a serious problem, and the comics suggest he's actually getting worse over time.
This is not 'after' he got a phone call like that....It happened DURING the call.
He was just given what was very likely extremely bad news about his Mother....And Lou was yammering in his ear about phone calls not being allowed at work and then threw that slur at him. It's stressful enough getting bad news via a cellphone call...It gets amazingly stressful when someone is talking to you at the same time telling you to knock it off and put away the phone.
Also factor in the stress of just being outed at work in front of a lot of other Employee's, the entire series of events that happened the previous day and everything else...It was like lighting a short fuse to a powder keg.
(Though to be fair to Lou....Lou didn't mean it like that....Even Reis realizes that Lou didn't mean it like that...It was just Lou being Lou.)

Precisely my point, it's not a matter of one wrong comment causing him to flip out and punch the guy. There's a lot more to it, which makes it understandable. Not acceptable, but understandable.
That doesn't mean that he's going to abuse his partner though. Three times of lashing out at someone when provoked or already highly stressed and about to crack doesn't make someone an abuser or a violent person. I've thrown things irl at people when I'm pissed or stressed. But I'd never intentionally hurt my partner even when I'm stressed. I've thrown things at him like pencils or my tablet pen and stuff, but we usually end up laughing about it later. But I'd never punch him or slap him or anything. What someone does when they're under stress isn't exactly something you can control.

Exactly, and you can see the guilt written on Reis's face as he recounts clocking someone who very well likely his best friend over something (If he were thinking clearly) something he knows he doesn't mean. (We see this when the two are walking inside and talking. Lou really doesn't give two shits about Reis and Marcus and keeps treating Reis as he had before.)
So yes I could never see Reis doing anything to harm Marcus. The pair of them might fight and argue a lot...But ultimately Reis is far to caring and protective to ever lay a hand on him.
Though seriously....I'm starting to think Reis is the worlds punching bag. :(
Bad stuff keeps happening to him that makes lash out and make situations drastically worse.

Even then, from what he said... it sounds like he acted way too extremely about it. One good punch or attack from most people would do it, before they right away realized, "Oh my god, I just hit my best friend," and stopped.
In the case where he beat the hell out of the bully in the first one, I side with him. That guy deserved to get some teeth (bones, even?) broken for constantly being a dick and eventually ganging up on him (not just one on one).
But Lou was his friend all along, he seems like a very close or best friend, even... So repeatedly punching someone that close to you, even under stress, is overreacting way too much. It's not far off from using an object to beat them. This suggests there is something wrong with him... something bad. Which makes be believe that it's not too unlikely that he could eventually harm Marcus.

Poor Reis...It's his mother, isn't it? *sigh* I hope it doesn't make him snap at Marc or something...
Totally random thought: I'm sure everyone has something different in mind, but I'd be quite interested to hear straight from Rukis. When play out the scenes in your head and draw Marcus and Reis, what do you imagine their voices sounding like? Pitch and tone and accents and the like...

speaking of which.... after see your comment I tried to read the comic with their voices... the I got into a little trouble... How is pronounced "Reis"?
(Also... you know how to leave the people asking what happened ha ha... I'm really curious, and scared a little about what could happen next. I'm in love with the characters, as many others, enough how to really worry about them -not worry like Marcus, but close-)

gosh I know that it has to be his mother ODed..
But still.. Now what will Reis do.. He only has Marcus and well Macus is so inconsiderate at the worst times
Yes I think he cares but they need a relationship book on how to treat each other. I think they love each other they just treat each other like worse than friends do
