Snake Eyes Doubles Tournament
Game 3 - Tau/Orks vs Ultramaries/Tau
Mission: Objective taking(3 on field), Hammer and Anvil(long board) setup
Special Rules: Night fighting, Random game length, mysterious terrain, heavy support is scoring
My list can be found here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4345135/
My partner has the following: 2 scout squads w/ sniper rifles and a missile launcher, Talion, 2 thunderfire cannons, Sternguard unit, Cassius and an aegis line with lascannon.
The tau player had: 2 broardside with shield drones, 3 10 man firewarrior squads, devilfish, 2 tetras, Shas'o with missile pod/plasma rifle and an aegis line w/ quad gun
Ork player had: Grazgul thraka(yikes), lootas, two full squads of boys, big mech with kustom force field
Overview:
Luck was not with us, we had the advantage of distance for about 10 secs, they got first turn and in one round of shooting killed the two thunderfires and the lascannon. What we thought might be a tau off ended up as a defensive gauntlet run for the ork player.
As expected the ork ran as fast as he could up the line, using Thraka's relentless rule with the lootas to keep them firing on the run, the two squad of boys were protected by the kustom field and by Gork and Mork as well as I have never seen so many 5+ saves made since the old days of warlord TJ.
This time the hammerhead did some damage both good and bad, the sub-munition round killed a few lootas and boys before a combined salvo from the broadsides and tetras caused it to explode in our position, if not for our decent armour it had the ability to wipe out the position and us in the process.
Cassius and the sternguard held the line well accounting for at least 75% of the boys destroyed before perishing themselves. The Tau player was pretty much untouched send only a few rounds down field via the broadsides, looking at it I should have just helped out the sternguard with my stealth suits instead of trying to assault the tau line to hold up the broadsides.
In the end we each held one objective for a draw.
Final overview:
Other then the poor performance of my hammerhead and the mistake with the suits in the third round I was happy with the army in general. I made a fluffy list that held it's own under tournament conditions. I like the fact that I had such a variety of opponents and being attached to the odd ball list of marines that I was was an interesting change of pace.
There is a 2K tournament in 2 weeks that I'm thinking of going for, effectively doubling what I used for this one. I have to give credit to the red squads, these were models I painted in the week prior to the tournament and they lived through all the games for the most part, the remoras also survived until the end where they took heavy damage from the quad gun, be that was to be expected.
