DEF CON Cybersecurity and Hacking Convention
DEF CON is the premier cybersecurity and hacking convention of the calendar year, hosted at the Caesar's Forum and nearby hotels in Las Vegas, Nevada. Started in 1993 by hacker "The Dark Tangent," what started as a small gathering has since exploded over the last thirty years into the world's biggest cybersecurity and hacking events of the year. The event features days of panels and talks hosted by cybersecurity expects, government agency leaders, security group CEOs and chairmen and chairwomen, and even members of "alleged" hacking groups. There, of course, are also raves and parties right in the middle of Las Vegas!
DEF CON is divided into multiple "villages" that focus on specific subject matter, such as aerospace, physical security, "Blue Team" security matters, "Red Team" adversarial maneuvers, car hacking, voting machine hacking, detection and mitigation of misinformation, and also hosts a variety of talks from heads of industry, members of the defense department, and even the federal government. Competitions at DEF CON pit participants in games of "Capture The Flag," which requires players to break into computer networks to locate particular assets or files, breaking through physical locks, and the like.
DEF Con even has a significant furry contingent! Almost 1,000 members are part of the "DEF CON Furs" group, and some even bring their fursuits!
It even featured its own app on Google Play: the Hacker Tracker app, which contained the schedules of all the villages, maps of the hotels, and instructions on how to connect to DEF CON's authorized and secure wifi (yes, a legit wifi run by DEF CON staff).

Note: I understand that photography at DEF CON can be very sensitive, so if it so happens I snapped a photo of you that you would like removed, simply ask me and I'll redact or obscure your face, or remove the photo entirely-no questions asked.

DEF CON 31, "The Future Will Prevail," August 10-13, 2023
DEF CON 31 kicked off stronger than ever, with many familiar villages returning (and some curiously absent). Nevertheless, the entire Caesar's Forums was rented out once again and wall-to-wall with computer specialists, hackers, and enthusiasts! The antics started well before the convention began, with Black Hat finishing up its convention and DEF CON picking up right afterward.
This DEF CON featured a Hack-A-Sat competition, which pitted 5 of the best teams in the world in a capture-the-flag-styled competition upon a real satellite, live, in space!
I met up with the DEF CON Furs once again and met many people whom I had not seen in over a year! It was truly an honor to be part of this convention! Some photos of me even ended up on the big screens during Closing Ceremonies (which we once again crashed with a fursuit parade)!

DEF CON 30, "Hacker Homecoming," August 11-14, 2022
Over 200 people participated in the DEF Con Furs village gatherings this year, including for a big group picture and the first ever fursuit parade around the forum! The Radio Frequency Village even invited DEF Con Furs to participate in a "Hunt The Fox" challenge, which tasked convention attendees with tracking down specific fursuiters carrying radio transmitters.
This particular DEF CON was likewise very significant, as it was the 30th DEF CON ever held, as a return to the Caesar's Forums in the wake of COVID-19. It got so intense that DEF CON's Twitch account was banned! Almost 25,000 people were in attendance!
