This is just a silly, off the wall topic here.
But since a large majority fursona characters *NOT referring to the actual IRL furry fans. I'm referring to the characters themselves here.) are LGBT, how would furry characters procreate at a rate to sustain and expand the population? And number 2, since in furry land, procreation can happen across species, how does that work? Well obviously we cannot apply IRL logic and IRL laws of nature here. We need to use something more akin to cartoon logic on this. So lets suspend our scientific believes and let our imaginations run wild.
Now an easy explanation can be found in Flash Gits animated series parody of furries. A source of corruption called the Lupus Mortum is spreading across the universe transforming humans and even their planets in to furries and its up to the Dark Templars to stop this corruption and its spread. What happens is your stereo typical social outcasts succumb to the Lupis mortum and become furries. From there, they spread their seeds across their world transforming inhabitants into furries and their planet into one gigantic macro fur with the ....erm..."red mountain". Its a workable explanation that accounts for how furries procreate. Though its more or less too parasitic in nature in that a host species, humanity, is required for furries to expend and propagate. Plus its a parody on fursuiters more so than of the fursonas themselves.
So lets go for a more self contained way for furry characters to procreate. What if in furry logic the characters are neither male nor female in the traditional since. Though they can appear to be male and female or a mixed bag between in outward physical appearance, gender identification, and gender rolls. But in actuality every furry character has all of the provisions to reproduce in a "male" as well as in a "female" way. When copulation or what we furries call yiffing happens, dominate characters AKA the toppers, the pitchers, etc. will produce the fertile seed. The submissive characters, AKA the bottom, the catcher. etc.will take on the gestation of the resultant offspring to birth. That's the concept.
Now you might ask what if the bottom is a male, how does that bottom have the proper anatomy to handle the gestation of the off spring and give birth. Well that is were you need to toss IRL logic aside and go with cartoon logic. What are furry characters? They are cartoon characters. Cartoon characters are made of a special substance called imagination. Without the constraints of IRL physics and the laws of nature holding furry characters back, furry characters can do anything they want. After all, how else can you explain a yiffy pic of a bottom character taking in that school bus sized hyper man part without being torn apart into a gory mess by said hyper man part? Like cartoon characters furry characters can stretch, contort, and bend in ways that would make the laws of physics lay a patch in its underwear and not be phased at all.
But if you want to have a somewhat more logical explanation of how furry characters procreate. We need our host humans like in the Flash Gits furry parodies. We can also account for the presence of furry characters that lay eggs. *points to any of you that are into egg laying*. What if instead of the bottoms carrying offspring to term, they lay eggs instead. Since furry characters live in the world of imagination, eggs are not laid in a nest. Instead eggs are laid into the mind of us furry fans. We hatch those eggs by creating our fursonas into the characters they are.
There we go. I just explained how furry characters procreate. Now get over here, Human, and get your computer and Wacom fired up! This chipmunk got yiffed by a sexy topper and I have whole clutch of eggs to lay in your head. XD XD XD XD

Rather similar to a video I saw not too long ago on the science and genetics of transgender. In said video they defined "male" as the one who makes sperm and "female" is the one that makes the egg. And from that, many interesting combinations are possible with the same anatomical structures. (Translation: ovaries and testicles are pretty much the same organ, just with different genes activated.)
