Size Swap story on hold pending rewrite
To those of you who follow me for my writing, I'm afraid that Size Swap is on an indefinite hold. As you know I lost steam on the story in 2018, which was a very difficult year for me. I got back on my feet in 2019 with a great new job and eventually even a house, but I still didn't return to the story because I don't like what it's become. The short answer is I accidentally wrote myself into a corner where the implications have become dark and unpleasant, and it's completely killed the vibe of the story.
It started off as a mostly wholesome (though definitely still adult) light-hearted story, with lots of teasy sizeplay between the main characters but with a background plot that had it's own inherent backstory which didn't offer any problems at first, or if it did I genuinely didn't see them coming. That's just what happens with writing; you really don't know what a story will become until you start writing it.
But as it went along I started to realise I'd overlooked a fundamental flaw in the premise of the story. That I'd written themes of non-consensual sexual acts into the unwritten past of the main characters of this world. And as the story went on I had to reinforce this for the plot to make sense, try as I might to avoid it. And I also had to create a system (the TV show, the studio making it, the staff/cast/crew, etc) surrounding the characters that not just tolerated but encouraged sexual assault, because it was the only way the plot made sense. And I couldn't escape it, I was writing myself further and further into this corner.
And it was around here that I stopped writing, because I realised I didn't like the world I was creating for these characters, one of whom is a literal author insert of my fursona, so I risked making him complicit to some extent as well.
Hence why the story is stalled and I'm thinking I should rewrite it (not from scratch, I mean heavily edit it from the beginning to where I left off before finishing it). My aim is to make it clearer from the start of the story that these themes exist, that they're more clearly established as a negative and not a neutral aspect of the world, and to also hopefully work towards a redemption that removes the system that creates them towards the end of the story.
Another thing that I would change is drop the chapter releases. Finish the story completely before releasing it. The serial nature is what got me into trouble here in the first place, because I was locked on a course and I couldn't alter what I'd already released. So I'm obviously not keen to make that mistake again. I will miss the incremental comments and feedback of course, that was nice to have, but I don't think it's worth it. Especially given my abysmal procrastination and inability to stick to a consistent schedule. Sorry about that!
I'm not even sure if I should keep myself as the main character of this story. Keen to hear the fans' thoughts on that, let me know! Oh, and I'm planning to leave the existing chapters in scraps, so you don't need to scramble to download and save them, they won't change.
In other news, I haven't been entirely dormant on the writing front since 2018, you'll be pleased to know. I'm well on the way with a Halloween themed one-off story that I wanted to have done by last October but didn't make the deadline, but really keen to get it done in time for release on Halloween this year!
I also started a small vignette story that involves a rather tall mouse meeting a team of aerial skywriters. It's right at the good part now so hopefully it shouldn't take me much longer to finish it! :)
And obviously I still have a gigantic pile of art commissions to upload here, I apologise, please whine and beg and kick my arse about it, it really does help as motivation!
That's all for now, thanks for reading! :D

Looking forward to that rewrite, since you're one of the few writers out there who gives us light and positive macro stories!
...And that there should be more of it, but I'm the last one with the right to say anything about that.
