Backing up my FA submissions, you should too
a year ago
After the permanent depression induced by 2020, I stopped cleaning out my submissions regularly, and they backed up to over 50,000. But spurred by the events of the last fortnight or so I've managed to get it down to 18k and decreasing. Surprising how fast you can clear them out when you remove 48 at a time, opening the ones you want to save or comment on in a new tab, then switching to clearing out those tabs after you get about 15 or so of them together so they don't pile up.
Caution though, going through thirty thousand furry images, even if you're only glancing through the thumbnails, will leave you insanely horny. Keep a tight leash on yourself, don't let yourself send any creepy messages to friends, begging them to visit and maybe sit on you, stuff like that :P If any of my mutuals are noticing a lot of thirsty comments on suspiciously old submissions coming from me, in reverse chronological order, this is why!
The reason I'm doing all this, I'm sure you can guess, is that Project 2025 nightmare future that the US seems to be headed towards. One of the first things they'll try to do is shut down all the porn, and one of the first kinds of porn they'll try to shut down will be us furries. FA's servers and employees are all based in the US, so even if they host in another country, the employees are still engaging in criminal activity in a worst case scenario. It's got me a tad worried.
Now I'm not saying you need to be as drastic as I'm being and try and save all your favourite porn from an insane number of backlogged submissions. But I know for a fact there's people out there who don't save their own commissions from artists. They just fave them or bookmark them and trust in them to always be there. This is, frankly, stupid, even without a looming dystopia. Artists are temperamental. They wipe their accounts and start again, or don't and leave the fandom. I've seen people complain about losing commissions this way because they had the work (which they paid for) faved and not saved. Don't let this be you! Back up all your commissions to storage that you control, immediately.
As for Luvtail news, I'm currently unemployed, hence all the time I have to save all the inflation and macro porn I want :P But I've also taken up the hobby of woodworking by joining my local Men's Shed, and it's been a lifesaver. Can't tell you what it's done for my mental health to be making things with my hands, learning fun new skills, trying out tools I can't afford and don't have the space for, and being able to help out like-minded people in my community with my time and labour. It's great. To anyone struggling for social interaction, a sense of purpose or community, I'd suggest looking for Men's Sheds in your area!
Good luck everyone. Fingers crossed that this nightmare future of a second Trump term doesn't come to pass.

Don't lose hope, either. There's been a worldwide trend this year of elections throwing the extreme right into the trash. If freaking Iran can elect the most progressive candidate, the US probably can.
This is essentially a horde of freaking honey badgers we're going up against now, and they'll never take no to their reign for an answer.
I think in the future it will not be so bad, but not everything is perfect either
