ok so as many of you know I plan on writing stories with my characters, i'm still working on the plot for my main story, but a friend of mine suggested that I write short stories in the mean time and it would help inspire and improve my writing ability, and I agreed, so I'm thinking that I will be writing short stories about different events that happen in the same universe as my main story but they could take place, in between story arcs or could take place in the future or even the past, showing some characters origins. on top of that I also had Alternate universe story ideas such as a western era setting, a medieval fantasy setting and others featuring my characters, and I would do some short stories based on those Alternate universes, all of which would be clearly labeled so nobody gets confused why Gus is now suddenly wielding an axe instead of a firearm lol. but I wanted to see what some of you thought about this.

Personally, I say go for it! Whatever you're feeling and want to write, do it. I would label things that are AU or non-canon, obviously, but otherwise, follow the muse!

As someone who's corpus of work primarily consists of assorted writing projects, I try to encourage others who have the urge to put pen to paper (or keyboard to disk). As a warning, don't be surprised if your written works get fewer page views than your more visually oriented works. Also, don't be surprised if some time down the line, you look back at your earliest products and wince at how campy they are. Just remember that you wouldn't have put out your latest works if you hadn't had the practice writing the early works first.

right, thanks for the tip, I have actually written a couple of short stories before so I have a little experience but am still pretty green, but I have experienced what your saying.

the main setting will be in zootopia yes, some of the alternate universes, like the medieval fantasy one or the western one might be a little harder to do but might have alternate names or something.
