What do you want to know about technique?
In my spare time (usually the hour before bed or something) I've been working on a tutorial using some leftover in progress shots of "Flighty".
The images are finally sorted and the writing is in it's first draft. It's not very long so far, about 2 pages, and I have more I need to add to it. Since I am at the stage of editing, I thought I'd pose the question to you guys if you have a moment.
This is the underpainting:

And the completed image:

Ask me whatever you like to know, whether it's color, texture, Painter specific technique, anything. I have covered a lot of stuff in what I've written already, but I am curious if there is more I could answer in the writing. I may not be able to answer some things, but I will try when I do my editing.
I would be grateful for your help. :3

Where did you start to put the fur being fluffy? In the background working forwards ending on the nose or viceversa? And working from dark to light or changing it all the time like working in layers of paint (not the digital layers)? <.<
2. why ur so awesome ;A;? *cannot comprehend the power of ur awesomeness*
Anything you'd like to toss out is sure to help~
Like a) how do you plan your composition? (do you just see it in your mind, or do you put more technical thought into it than that)
b) how do you pick colors? How do you plan lighting?
c) Lots of painter specific questions like what brushes and settings you use, what you put on different layers, if you use that "pick up colors from other layers" option, etc...
Also, ive noticed theres a bunch of menus with settings for different things. For example theres a menu for underpainting. I really dont know what to do with that type of thing. Im too used to photoshop also, so I open painter and see all these newer things, that i just dont know how to even start!
And another tiny thing... Does the paint stay "wet" for a certain time? or do you have to tell the program to dry it or what? I havent been able to figure it out :/
Thanks a bunch for this! I was about to man up and send you a note asking for painter help, lol. I thrive to do stuff like yours, and your work is definately a great inspiration for me. But, with photoshop, its extremely easy to make the piece look way too realistic, you know with fancy effects and such. I just want to paint it, ya know? I dont want to cheat :P
Thanks again!
I can make an entire painting using only the round oil pastel brush, and I often do. One brush is sufficient! I use a couple others but 95% of my work is just that one tool. In the tutorial I will specify the settings, but honestly I fuss around with them all the time because I am not entirely certain what the different settings are for.
I dont know about Underpaintings! I only just found the menu myself a few weeks ago and it left me wondering what the heck it's for.
The watercolors stay wet or something, but it confuses me. I rarely use them other than for some added texture. Everything else, nope. It just is!
Mmmm some other things I will talk about in the tutorial ma jiggy that will hopefully be a bit more informative!
Ill be looking forward to seeing the tutorial! And maybe, once im done with college and have an actual income, ill get a subscription to painter magazine :) Thanks alot for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it!
Thank you! I can't wait to see the tutorial.

Anyway, my question is as follows: How best to determine the higlight and shade to use for the tone?
I sincerely thank you for your time.
