October Writing Update: Spoooooky Hyperfocus!
Welp. I think you guys can probably guess how this month went! Basically exactly as I predicted it would!
The good news is I kept going solidly, even though I didn't come near close to the madwoman marathon I pulled last month. I spent at least two weekends in super hardcore output mode, putting out a nice big pile of words in the beginning of the month. The third weekend I finally began to wind down, as I recognized I was starting to seriously toe the line of burnout. Then, for the final weekend, I attended Aquatifur! No writing got done then, but it was absolutely the break I needed. I got to meet up with
scarlettv multiple times and we had a grand ol time! Talking a lot with them helped to solidify yet another new story idea too, and this idea is one I'm actually SUPER EXCITED for! I'll be expediting it directly onto my queue ASAP since I am so stoked for it!
I don't have much else for this little intro segment though so let's get into the thick of it shall we?
OCTOBER WRITING SUMMARY
You guys remember last month when I discussed potentially splitting up Chunk 13 of COTP just because of how ludicrously large it was getting? Yeah, I managed to get over that silly arbitrary desire to have 13 chunks total and went for the split. I decided to do the split RIGHT AT the spot where I left off last month, so I'm just not going to put Chunk 13 here since I decided to call it done and move on to 14. So here's the rundown:
✔️ -Editing of Serpent's Luster (Gift story for Selth): 15,749 words all edited!
❌ -Rise of the Silver Flight Chunk 3: 0 words out of an expected 10,000
✔️ -Crossing of the Paths Chunk 14: 21,544 words out of an expected 30,000
TOTAL: 21,544 words written in October!
Ok, overall not too bad! It's not quite the 36K stretch goal I had set for myself, but it's plenty more than the minimum quota for the month! As expected, my brain still refused to do a word on RotSF, but at least I finally hammered out the last edits on Serpent's Luster! I can now FINALLY close the book on that one and comfortably tuck it away in my Done Pile. Gods I can't tell you how good it feels to finally add something to that pile other than COTP after so many months of being stuck! I'm so goddamn close to being done with the Desert Wind arc of COTP now too, just shy of 10K words left. I'm at the epilogue now, which is going to be massively bittersweet. I've already got it all planned out and have even chosen a song for it that's so packed full of feels that it makes me tear up. Actually finishing it is gonna be a really damn emotional moment. I am equally excited for and dreading it.
And now, the part of this journal I'm most excited for, calculating out the surplus! Last month's insane blitz created a 16,833 word surplus, and this month I managed to add another 4,877 words of surplus on top! That means now for the entire year we have a surplus of 21,710!!! Holy shit! There's only two more months left in 2022, and if I take the minimum quota for those two months, it's 33,334 words needed. Subtracting my surplus from that, it means I only need to write another 11,624 words to meet my final year goal of 200,000 words for 2022!
It means I could easily take a whole month off and also do a slow month too, but I'm not gonna be satisfied with that. I'm gonna keep pushing myself. If I can break that 200K goal then that'll be even fucking sweeter. So I'm gonna try to still hit the 16k counts for both November and December and see how much further I can push this shit! Let's set those goals!
NOVEMBER WRITING GOALS
For one thing, I'm going to set myself two easily attainable goals. I want to finish the ending of the Desert Wind arc in COTP, with both Chunks 13 and 14 written and edited by the end of the year. I also want to finish and fully edit Rise of the Silver Flight by the end of the year. That means I can start next year with a clean slate and focus down on stuff like Arina is All. This is a MOSTLY doable goal, the daunting part is just how much fucking editing there is to be done. COTP chunk 13 is almost 50K words, and chunk 14 will be at least another 30K. I'm cautiously optimistic though since I can be a much faster editor than writer when my brain isn't being dragged away from it by hyperfocus. And once Chunk 14 is done with the rough draft, there won't be any more hyperfocus urge on it. So let's again be ambitious, and if we don't get the editing done after all, that's fine! My resolution for 2022 was only about raw wordcount after all!
-Editing of Crossing of the Paths Chunk 13: 48,462 words to edit
-Rise of the Silver Flight Chunk 3: Expected 10,000 words
-The Rebirth of Lightest Chunk 1: Expected 10,000 words
-Crossing of the Paths Chunk 14: Currently 21,544 words currently pre-existing out of an expected total of 30,000 words
Total Expected Word Count for November: 16,667-28,456 words!
That raw wordcount total is certainly less ambitious than last month's, but it ain't nothin to sneeze atr either, especially if taken together with that daunting mountain of editing! You may also notice that a new story managed to slip in there too. That's the new story I mentioned earlier in the intro of this journal that Scarlett helped me to brainstorm! It's gonna be HELLA fun to write and I'm super stoked for it! I probably won't get much of it written just yet since COTP is still in hyperfocus mode, but it's worth sticking into the queue anyway.
Hopefully by the next time I talk to you folks, the rough draft of COTP Chunk 14 will finally be finished and the hyperfocus demon shall be slain. Wish me luck, and thanks again for sticking with me and reading!
