Right. The DRM. It's best to get one without the DRM. I wasn't sure if they were still doing that, but we made sure to get one without it.

We've had one for a few years. It works pretty good. You can get a variety of standard coffee, hot cocoa, tea, and cocoa-like latte premixes.

The machine itself is basically just an electric kettle that dispenses pre-set quantities of heated water - so long as you keep the cup slot clean and the water jug fresh it shouldn't give you much trouble.

Never let water sit in it if you aren't planning on using it for a long period though. Believe it or not, water can go bad if it just sits around.

The latte and hot cocoa mixes are a big selling point

Well, as it happens, I have one. I love it, but the cost of the pods is not a selling point in its favor.

Basically, if you only want to replace one for one the coffee shop coffee, keurig wins on cost and convenience. if you just want one each morning to drink on the way to work, it also wins on convenience. If yuu find a brand you like in the dollar store brands, then price gets a lot more reasonable. The DRM machines are a curse, stay away from them. They lock you out from lower cost options.

if you are not using it daily, then cleaning and changing the water gets more important. Quality of the water you put into it is also really impoortant. there is also an internal water filter you want to change annually or so. I have water with lots of minerals, so I run a tank of white viniger through it a couple times per year to descale the internal tank and tubing. Leaving it on all the time can burn a lot of electricity, use the timer to save energy. They pop up at garage sales and secndhand store a lot, usually lots less expensive to buy there. Make sure the heater and pump work before buying used.
