what's worse, it shows me you're using the banner function. on the old FA UI look it stretches it across the top of the screen with the ads planted on top of them. god this update is just straight garbo, and I just wanted a name change function :c

For a second I thought older images would be compressed, but now you're telling me they were always only like 2k? I'm actually kinda relived. I was worried all my old stuff got compressed.

Are you sure? cause i seen size increase for people who didn't pay for it, also there seems to be two versions 1 size increase for non fa+/people who pay for it and another for people who do.

The limit was increased from 1280 to full 2k, only 4k is behind a paywall.

The size limit isn't exactly behind a paywall, just the default initial compression size is bigger for FA+ users than the increase for non-subscribers. Non-paid users still get a bump in default image size, just not as much as FA+ users.

And the reupload glitch I'm pretty sure they aren't getting rid of, in fact I seen people posting oversized images last night (though I was out all day so I don't actually know for sure that this was after the change, but pretty sure). Dragoneer seemed to encourage the reupload thing, so again this is just for the initial upload size.

But remember too, they just added $20,000 in additional storage in order for this to be possible, and the funding came entirely from FA+ subscribers. ^^; so everyone does get a benefit, but to give a bit more to those of us who are helping fund the site, I think it's fair. Running a server costs a lot of money, after all!

Base limit was increased to 2k, paywall is 4k, anything higher than HD before was a bug. Storage is expensive and FA doesn't have VC money pouring in like other sites might.

Their reasons for doing this make perfect sense. They plan to adjust this and increase the upload sizes as they can in the future.

It wasn't perfect as it was, and this isn't either.

Well we could always run off to another site for a couple of days then return here because all other sites are passing fads that don't get enough traffic to be worth uploading there. Really it's better than it was. I just tested it.

This pretty much effects me directly, too. 1440 is way too small a resolution. My image file sizes hardly ever reached past 1000kb each.

Being upset about a patched exploit for abusing an exploit is like being upset about no longer being allowed a cheat in a game. Size costs memory and memory costs money. So, using a size exploit technically abuses memory storage. FA is finally getting income to where changes can happen sooner, and the size limit is 2k while 4k is FA+ and that's pretty reasonable for gallery upload compression.

Try not to worry about the immediate moment of growing pains and have patience that things improve on a site that still stands, nearly 20 years later, where the humans running it are doing their best to be receptive more than ever. Think about positive possibilities.

I thought the original resolutions for uploads were 1280×1280 with the file size limit being 10MB. Did they reduce that?

The resolution was increased, but the exploit of uploading something at 6000x6000 was patched out to have a more genuine size limit on uploads because resolution eats a lot of memory when a lot of people do it constantly.

Resolution will increase in the future, but this is an adjustment period.

My own opinion is that is one of the two axis isnt exceeded, the other should be allowed go beyond. That way it doesnt get out of hand.

I don’t get the anger. The old size limit was 1280x. You could only get higher by re-uploading or buying plus. I’m not going to assign moral judgement since I might have done it once or twice, or at least thought about it, but I always had the impression we were suppose to pay for that anyway.
