An update
Didn't had an update in 5 months better write a new.
On life side theirs nothing new I work long hours for a very depreciated paycheck as inflation runs its turns on my savings.
There was also a bit of health condition. I had to go on operation because I had grown some very big sunspot trough my life and they had to be removed surgically. So that landed me a day in hospital, and afterwards some sleepless nights as all the cuts on my body made it pretty much impossible to find a position to sleep where nothing hurts. So theirs that, thanks for younger me to spending my youth out in the open always and getting sun burnt all the time. Okay it not like it was an option, I had to work in the greenhouses as a kid so while others were playing inside or had the summer vacations of their life I been burning under the sun, and it came back to bite me.
Other thing this operation lent me is some more time to think as obviously I cant do the usual workload I do till my scars heal. So thinking I did.
I have a hunch that other artist don't like to work for me. I mean that I commission more and more art from others as I can't draw my self more. There's tough a trend in all of them what I fund worrying. That I don't get any feedback from other artist. I done commissions in the past my self and I was trying to keep the costumer up to date with how their art is progressing. Something that trickle down to my scrap directory, just take a look and you can see its full of in progress pictures showing how things are going.
What I experience on the other end of the market me now being the costumer is:
Nothing for months.
I had several cases (please no one take this personally), where after several months I had to brake the silence and ask for an update on the commission I payed for. It's makes me feel bad, and wonder why is that:
Are my character so bland and bad, is it that I'm just a nobody to others? Do I act like a jerk in my mails or something so no one like to talk to me?
Oh they are just busy and don't have time to reply. I keep getting that. Sorry to blow everyone cheap excuse out of the water but we live in the modern world. You can reply to email's and dm's on you phone at any time unless you didn't departed from civilization to your hermit cave to make the art.
So why is it so hard to send me a few letters to keep me informed that things will eventually be done from time to time? I could feel a little less tense about where I spent my money. It feel like ordering anything in this fandom is more like a gamble I do each time.
A last note before I end my little rant I have a degree in marketing heres what it says: You guys are all terrible in costumer relations.

As for long silence after placing a commission, it's not just you, i'm afraid. Either they also do not like me, or it's a bad habit with artists these days.
I will soon post a commission which i have by now accepted will never be finished. There were supposed to be a 4th and a 5th page to it, but after close to two years clearly it's not going to happen.
And i'm waiting on two pictures from two different artists since last year and i have no real updates whatsoever, so...
I know the feeling. I also have 1 from last year, where there is nothing at all.
The key to my belief is a reply you made to your featured submission 12 years ago:
It (is) in Ukraine our neighbor country.
This means you most likely live in Russia.
We all know how people feel about ANYTHING involving Russia these days.
The most likely reason nobody really wants to work with you is prejudice since you're Russian, and that is simply WRONG.
So what if he's Russian? His art is AWESOME!
On the other issue... I've been in the same situation a couple of times and yeah, it's probably just being people bad at customer relations. I doubt many artists have actual training in the field so really, that's not very surprising. And it is really tough to be a customer in such cases. Personally, I'm very patient. But I'd just like to get an update now and then.
Unfortunately there are a few cases of artists who feel like they don't have to. With patreon and similar things they have created small, insular communities of dedicated fans who make them believe they can do no wrong. And so they have an "I'll get it done how and when I want and you'll like it." kind of attitude towards commissions.
But I believe those are the exceptions. Most are just bad at talking to their commissioners. Heck, maybe they are feeling bad too and want to give you a proper update, not just "I did a bit more sketching.". Who knows.
It's definitely not just you or your characters though :)
Example:
Up to bat (currently working on/finishing up): Bob
On deck (next up, working on initial sketches and planning): Bill
3. Tom
4. George
5. Jill
etc.
That way, everyone can see, at a glance, how things are progressing and where they are in line. Plus, it means you only have to update one journal when things change, instead of emailing each person individually. It's an easy way for you to keep track of what you need to be working on as well.
And if someone is uncomfortable being on a public list, you can just use an alias for them instead.
One I commissioned had a queue, and over 2 years I watched myself go from 90th on the queue to something like 306th. Suddenly, unexpectedly, my piece was completed and I think it was because he mis-read a line entry on his spreadsheet and thought he was doing someone else's.
So... it can help, but not always.
I don't think it's anything about you or your characters (and your characters are -awesome!-). Some artists are slow or take on too much work at once, or some have anxiety and don't handle communication or updates well, and I suppose very rarely someone just takes money for a commission and vanishes (that has happened to me twice over the years). I expect it's a unique situation for each person you've commissioned, but I wish you the best in getting your art, or just an update on progress, for each one that you've commissioned. I certainly look forward to seeing art of your characters that you've commissioned from others!
Amúgy meg jobbulást!
