Inside Dead's Head

So this was done at
's suggestion: a short list of my story universes and what the deal is with them. I'm going to at least try not to downplay my stuff (if you know me, you know I'm really good at doing that).
Heart of a True Monster:
For almost twenty years, a rebellion has raged across the far reaches of the Empire. Citizens have long since grown to despise the people responsible for the tumult within the otherwise peaceful nation: the minotaur species. Humans view the bovid-like race as nothing more than savage beasts hellbent on destroying their civilization. However, despite the damages done by the minotaurs, a young minotaur has lived her entire life alongside her adopted, human father in an Empire-loyalist village. Unfortunately, her life is about to change dramatically due to some unfortunate circumstances.
Severed Roads:
*Choose Your Own Adventure elements*
Two weeks after what would become the end of the world, a group of survivors struggle not just with the monsters wandering the streets, but also having to put up with one another. The team of four have recently managed to contact the military to ask for evacuation from the infested city they once led relatively normal lives in. Unfortunately, their extraction can only take place on the other side of town and they must fight their way through the darkened streets before they are left behind. Unofficially led by a former police officer, the team set out in search of their salvation only to quickly find that every decision they make may be their last.
The Darkest Oceans:
Grace Marlow's life had never been exactly normal, but she had always managed to keep her head up. That is, until the day came that the organization her brother worked for came to tell her what happened during his recent assignment. Devastated and confused, the lioness had silently resolved to take up her brother's mantle and fulfill his mission. Under the tutelage of her adopted father and Director of Operations, Grace has launched her own mission to not just succeed her brother, but also find the only flesh and blood family she has left.

Shorts that might spin off into something of their own later:
A Lifetime Spent Down Memory Lane: A simple canine finds himself wandering a seemingly never-ending road to nowhere and strangely followed by a peculiar woman that pretends to know him for some reason...
Shedding Scales: After a train derailed on his way home, a man wakes up to find that the only way to save his life was a life, and body, altering therapy.
The Self in the Mirror: Everyday at work or at home is plain and simple, but that's fine. Hmm... maybe even a little too fine. So fine, in fact, that now I'm talking to that irritating reflection in the mirror... (Honestly, less a story and more internal screaming turned into text... I'm okay!)

*Sighs deeply. Leans to the side and eyes shift over to the artic fox sitting on her haunches upon a short stool nearby.*
"D... did I do it right?" he whispered to the fox.
*The only response given is an audible beep.*
"O-oh... r-right... Uhm... y-yeah, I-I can do this... I can... maybe do this," he stuttered...
I've already mentioned it, but Dead hates being bored and again
gave me this idea (just less directly this time). This sounded like a fun idea, but at the same time I'm immeasurably uncertain about it. Well, might as well live a little, right?
I'm not an especially interesting person (in all honesty, simply having a presence on FA is probably my most interesting characteristic), but since we're already in my head right now, how about we make this an "Ask Me Anything" journal as well? Honestly, probably get more interesting answers from my characters, so ask them something if you feel like it. Not sure how far this is gonna go, but it sounded like it would be fun to try at least.

Good summaries. You did fine.
I have some bad news. You were a cloak that means plenty of interest and oh no your also a writer and have imagination double whammy.
I appreciate you saying so, Helix. It's been a wild ride.
Although, to be fair, the cloak itself probably has more personality than the person wearing it!
They're more of a traditional and ritualistic tribe-based people who only deal with politics concerning other tribes and societies as necessary.
Potential - I agree
I have ability - Remains to be seen
Don't downplay self - *eyes shift upwards a line of text*
Dammit...
Thanks for your thoughts, Lu. It's all a big work in progress, but I never would have imagined I'd make it this far when I started.
I also really enjoy the relationships between the characters in the Left 4 Dead games; I always thought that was the biggest thing that all the Left 4 Dead clones missed.
Seriously these all sound interesting! I don't think you mentioned the one you have called 'A Story' though or has it been retitled?
OK questions -
To FtD - Adoption is an element in two of your story worlds, if it isn't too personal is that inspired from your own life?
To Lizard-Girl - How long have you known Mr Oblivious Dog and is there anything that would make you give up trying to get through to him?
To Main Character of Shedding Scales - How do you like your new body? And that doctor is a jerk, isn't he?
To Fox-Guy-I-Can't-Recall-The-Name-Of from Shedding Scales - And how do you like being a fox? Why did you choose that particular species?
From Paula the Fox to FtD - You wake up in a cybernetic animal-form body like mine, how do you react and what do you do with the rest your life? What species would you like to be and how would you feel about a lack of physical gender?
And finally to FtD - What is under your hood?!?
Thanks Celtic, this probably would not have happened if you hadn't said something about it. Also, yes, 'A Story' finally got its real title when I posted the entirety to what I've personally termed Act I. 'A Story' has been renamed to 'Heart of a True Monster' now.
FtD - The whole adoption angle isn't something that comes from personal experience. It's more so meant to give my characters a little more drive: in 'Heart of a True Monster' its part of the main character's reason for not looking back while in 'The Darkest Oceans' its why the main character is so fixated on finding her brother, her only family left.
The Lizard - Geez, how long have we known each other? For as long as I can remember, really. Well... that's not entirely true. There was a time before I met him. But I will NEVER go back to those times; he'll remember me or I'll die trying to get it through his thick skull!
Walker - It's... different. Can't say this is something I'd have chosen if I had the choice. But, I am alive because of it. I am alive because of Dr. Kasper... even if the guy could stand to just be a little more understanding. Man's like an entire swarm of wasps comin' at you all at once when you're at your most vulnerable...
Fernando - Livin' the dream, heh heh! Though I do get a bit hot in the fur coat when I go to see Walker in his room; cold bloods need their rooms painfully humid. To be honest, didn't think I'd have a say in the whole thing when I came in for the procedure since I was one of the first and all. The doc offered many different species to me, but I settled on a fox because we'd see em' every so often scampering about in the back yard and my son likes them.
From Paula to FtD - Assuming I don't go 'GITM - Rage' mode the way you did when you first started getting use to the body, I'd just try to lead as normal a life as possible. Maybe I'd have a little more of an adventurous side of myself if I were cybernetic, but I'd probably be content to simply go about business as usual despite the change. As for species... hmm... probably a large reptile, like a monitor lizard or something similar. As for not having a physical gender... that'd take some getting use to but I like to imagine I'd eventually get over it.
FtD (again) - An enigma given flesh and consciousness. An entity constantly at odds with its own being. Under the hood is an individual constantly questioning the purpose behind every decision. Beneath the cover of darkness could be the body of just about anything or anyone. Yellow-ish, orange eyes might glimmer with excitement or hope, but knowing where they come from... is it genuine? It's hard to say, really, when even I don't have an answer.
Also a second hood... What? I get chilly sometimes.
Ah I see, that explains it!
The Lizard - Well I'm glad to hear it. just hope he catches on!
Walker - It's definitely better than the alternative and I suppose he means well although his bedside manner could certainly do with improvement.
Fernando - That makes sense and is something I hadn't considered, and good choice, there is this whole group of people called furries who would like to talk to you ;)
Paula - Well that was just a temporary aberration and they fixed me up, but yes, and I agree with you on trying to lead a normal life but that really isn't possible in a lot of respects, and besides these neat new capabilities just need to be used. And interesting choice of species, I'd like to see what a cybernetic form of those look like! I suspect it might be a little more difficult for a male in some respects as a lack of sex would be a little more obvious, but then you've chosen a reptile body so....hhhhmmm....
And how very mysterious! ;)
