The Other Shoe Drops!
I said over a decade ago FA's policy on underage characters was unenforceable, and I was right! Furry is full of big-headed creatures and most of the media we like features primarily underage characters. Now even that policy is not enough. It would never be enough. These things are determined on vibes alone, on someone's feelings on the matter, and those feelings are as arbitrary as they are escalating. Instead of telling people to just not look for fetishes they don't like (or, my goodness, implementing a functional tag blocking system, lol), this is a moral dictate. And it's one that can never be satisfied because as anyone who's been on social media knows, the appetite for new people to throw into the clout volcano is endless and will eventually become a circular firing squad. I'm a leftist and I'm saying this.
And for that matter, in the intervening years, we've learned what most of us knew intuitively: Even drawing underage cartoon porn on purpose doesn't actually hurt anyone. I made a big journal on this you can read here:
https://inkbunny.net/j/478002-Norit.....-no-heres-why-
So why am I making this journal on a dead account? To crow? Not really- it's to point out that this is a cyclical problem we have in this space. Once upon a time there was a movement called the Burned Furs, a bunch of reactionaries who were either self-hating, immature or simply trying to gain clout with people they deemed "normal." They hated porn, but also regularly seemed to focus on queer elements because they saw that as inherently sexual. They tried hard to convince people in high places to ban porn and anything that didn't pass muster with your average non-furry. Eventually they fizzled out because their fights became internecine and their standards utterly impossible for even members to pass.
If all that sounds familiar, it should- it's what's happening now, again! Sometimes it's a right-wing group ("moral degenerates!"), sometimes it's left-wing ("we're protecting children, somehow, just trust us!!"), but it's never actually political- that's just the smokescreen they use to gain legitimacy. These anti-fetish, anti-porn reactionaries come out of the woodwork and try to throw a bunch of scary words at you to make you submit to their worldview. Don't let them! They're silly bastards who often hide terrible secrets of their own- did you know that more than a handful of these "anti underage art" people have been convicted on charges of grooming minors? Weird, right? As it turns out, if you want to groom teenagers, the best way to do that is to start a moral crusade they can join in on and feel like they're making a difference.
The moral of the story is, if you want to help people who get traumatized when they see certain fetishes (like I do with gore, PTSD has more than one cause folks) don't ask the admins to ban a fetish; ask them to implement a functional tag blocking system. Whatever you do, don't listen to these reactionaries, and dear god don't give them any power.

FA+

Andi agree, the blocking tag or account usernames thing would be great to have here (like it is on inkbunny).
Because only children like Funny Cartoon Animals, ya see. According to out-of-touch, detached-from-reality morons with more money than good sense. It's the same idiocy that caused Ronald Reagan to laugh when people started dropping dead of AIDS, sure in the belief that "This only effects those godless queers and those smelly hippies I convinced Americans to be ashamed of, right? My crystal-clutching wife's horoscopes told me so!"
Of course, we all know what happened there. Millions of people died, because the rich idiot in charge didn't do anything about it until it was too late.
And still, nothing happened. Well, that's not true- a ton of CSA survivors who watch me enjoyed the content and thanked me for giving them a fun, harmless outlet away from empty-headed moralizing scolds who can't do anything but scoff and gesticulate like it's a magic spell for making fetishes they don't like go away. =D
I was told to immediately delete them ahead of the coming rule change.
What's going to happen to innocent folks like the guy who drew them? He works in a Disney style (Winnie the Pooh adjacent specifically) and that has "vibes." Half the Aggretsuko art has Fenneko in it. Fennec foxes make this policy madness!
Sorry. Just upset I had to deep six three good images.
If any website gets the same traction that FA does, it will start to have the same monetary needs. And then the same suitors will come a-calling.
Sure, some of these wounds in the furry community are self-inflicted. But much of this is external pressure, of the kind you can't just say "take off, you hoser!" to.
>Site with a high proportion of neurodivergent users, including autists and people with aspergers? Institute vague and subjective guidelines.
Dragoneer's thought process makes me question the existence of a thought process. IIf I were a more suspicions man, I'd say such a vague policy serves as a cudgel to beat and cast out the unwanted instead of protect anyone.
Twitter did that if I recall, and... Oh no. Oh God, what if Elon buys FA?
It gets even better, he so casually explained that this new rule will apply to Pokemon and Digimon, and then he gets hit by the very rule he's being so nonchalant and "No no, see, this makes total perfect sense" about! It's goddamn poetic!
I've seen 12 year olds look like 30 year old men and vise-versa. This either means nothing changes or everything is purged. I guess I should post links here for when the website is dead and shucked into something else as corporations love to do...
THANK YOU
THANK YOU
HOLY FUCKING SHIT I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOREVER
IF FA HAD A TAG SYSTEM 80% OF IT'S FUCKING PROBLEMS WOULD CEASE TO EXIST.
I am so fucking done of seeing shit porn in all it's glory without content warnings, tag filters, and the fucking common decency to make a thumbnail disclosing this. Ok I fess up, I have some spicy not very everyone friendly content too, but end of the day, I at least add it as a FUCKING TAG. The thing, that FA can grab from github, in any language that this now abomination of prehistoric internet history in FIVE FUCKING MINUTES. Nearly twenty years, heck maybe more, fuck me for being just slightly younger than the person who has helped me recognize my own wings and soar.
Drunk rambling aside, I am applauding loudly for you being so fucking right.
pureold a character in art is.Digimon / Pokemon / Sonic artists, many more, they'll have to leave now.
I cannot apologise for this position and I refuse to apologise for a honestly held opinion without being presented hard evidence of it being based on something inaccurate.
I wonder too, how many pics of Midna, Judy Hopps, pretty much any Animal Crossing character portrayed accurate to their in-game model, etc. will be wiped from FA because of this now? I mean, their summary of what constitutes a "childlike bpdy" seems to just boil down to "short + flat", after all. Hell, they've even made it clear that characters like Lucario aren't allowed and count as "childlike". Someone's been told to remove their art of YOSHI. It's madness. And it's likely a smokescreen too, apparently this update might be because a major admin got caught with CP and this is to distract/scrub while they run. So basically they're pulling a Blizzard.
Oh yeah, and according to their clarifications, Pokemon trainers are fine, but not early-stage Pokemon. Despite many Pokemon trainers canonically being kids. "Why yes, by all means, draw Misty being utterly fucking assblasted while she screams out in ahegao-faced ecstasy, it's all good as long as you give her big honkin' titties and say she's 18+, but God fucking help you if you draw Sprigatito in a sexualized manner without properly displaying its adult proportions that totally exist!"
All they had to do was implement a tagging and blacklist system and there would have been no problem- e621 forces you to whitelist their underage tags to see them and they have zero issues. This has never been the giant problem people have made it out to be, they were just all too lazy to do the thing that would've fixed it.
Personally I prefer big amazons and/or mamas with curvy bodies.
There's some fetishes I'm not comfortable with but I'm not going all dramatic over it but I do get a bit tired on some stuff. Anyway people do have rights to be the ones they want to be (as long as they don't hurt anyone). So a tag would be very helpful both for helping everyone focus on what they want to watch and letting everyone do their stuff without being disturbed.
