Top Things I Learned About Ireland
1) It's easy to strike up a conversation just about anywhere. Kind of like Texas. :)
2) Irish folk are generally proud of being Irish. I saw the Irish flag around the place as much as I see the US flag over here. I approve.
3) Sometimes the Irish like to mess with you with their humor (the Scottish are just as guilty).
4) Sadly, some folks trash their own place as they do here. (And by 'trash' I mean, throw litter and shit around.)
5) The homeless people in the cities are more aggressive (not in a violent way) than the homeless here (maybe it was just Dublin).
6) There are a LOT of dudes named 'Michael' over there. :)
7) Ireland is by far the greenest place I've ever seen.
8) Next time I'll rent a car and brave the other side of the road.

Saint Patrick lives there you know
By trash, I mean literally throw trash around, particularly, in places that especially should be shown more respect. Case in point, Cong is a nice place where they filmed the movie The Quiet Man. Lovely river flowing through. Past some old trees was this stone fishing hut that had been built by the monks living there hundreds of years ago. Just outside of the little entrance and in the corners of this hut were empty beer bottles, and cans, bottle caps and paper cups.
I went to a nearby pharmacy and asked if they could spare a trash bag, since I couldn't bear to see a fine place of history all junked out like it was.
I'd probably make a bad Irish person as I don't watch sports or drink.
But yeah, drinking is an essential part of Irish culture, so... Yeah.
One Irish dude, who drove one of those horse and carriages, called it the black milk taken from the special black cows raised near Lough Leane. :)
God's little spotted cow
And nothing beats a guid Guinness, but don't you dare say that the damn Greeks invented it! THEY INVENTED GAYNESS!
And of course, we still have those good aul' chariots. Carriages my bad! Lol 😂👍
That show's the funniest shit I've seen in a long time.
Next time, renting a car.
If you aren't honking your horn, then it must be broken.
Go to the bathroom for the entire day before you go out because public restrooms aren't a thing.
The strongest soda is Pepsi Max, and that is seriously weaker than the cheapest US soda.
Subway sandwiches are very expensive.
Phone SOM cards are cheap and available everywhere.
Excellent transit and rail service.
Weather is plain, cool, cloudy with rain- much like Seattle.
You have to ask for water in restaurants. The courtesy ice water for service is not done.
Air Conditioning isn't a thing in hotel rooms. Your hotel window opens to the alley for "fresh" air, which includes the sounds of prostitution in said alley.
Hotel card is needed to keep the power on in your room. A card slot holder just inside the doorway. I was unaware of this tradition.
Went there for World Con a few years ago. I quite liked the adventure and want to visit Australia badly.
I'll keep that in mind next time I visit and rent a car.
I didn't have too much issue finding a rest room. I did ask one convenient store clerk if I could use their facilities and promised to buy something. They said it was fine, but I bought something anyway.
Pepsi Max? Enh. I don't drink sugary stuff.
I didn't have sub sandwiches. Just the occasional fish and chips from this one chipper in Dublin.
The cell phone roaming plan we have is pretty solid.
I walked most everywhere, unless we were on the bus.
The weather was cloudy and got foggy some mornings, which was pretty rad to see with a castle.
Weird. I don't think I ever asked for water. Some tables had a water pitcher already there.
One hotel in Dublin was very cold since the window was open.
The hotel room card slot I was halfway expecting, since I got the same in Iceland.
Also Guinness is the national drink so if you didn't have at least one (Draft only!) you can't either be Irish or say you visited! :D
