February 2024 Writing Update: Slow N' Steady
a year ago
Morning everyone! Hope you've all been doing well. It's been a wee bit rough on my end again unfortunately, but I've been working my way through it.
Long story short, dumb shit KEEPS HAPPENING at work. Be it workplace drama, office politics, and management continuously shoveling more and more responsibility onto people without any extra compensation. I went through more rigamaroles involving changing positions, though the specific details are far too tedious for me to bother writing an explanation of the entire thing. You don't need to know the boring minutiae and I don't feel like re-explaining it. To put it in a nutshell, every spot I move to keeps having more responsibilities added to it, causing me to try and leave to new spots with fewer responsibilities in the same plant, and it doesn't always go well.
This has been VERY STRESSFUL on me, especially since I've also been dealing with my phone finally starting to die. I had to go through the process of getting a new phone and putting it onto my family's plan, and that's also time consuming and stressful. Compounding that, my brother asked me with puppy dog eyes to run a Dungeons and Dragons game for him again, this time with his friends, and he flattered my DMing skills enough to make me cave in and agree. I'm now running a weekly campaign for them every Saturday, and that takes a lot of creative energy too.
That being said, I did still make some good progress this month, even if I didn't meet all my goals. Let's break it down.
FEBRUARY 2024 WRITING SUMMARY
Well, I am discovering that editing is starting to become a bit of a sticking point for me. I got plenty of raw writing done this month but didn't finish all my editing.
-PRIMARY OBJECTIVES-
❌ -Editing of Steel Apotheosis: 0 words edited
✔️ -Fabricating A Rubber Renatoy - Chunk 1: 16,070 words this month
✔️ -Editing of Fabricating A Rubber Renatoy - Chunk 1: 16,070 words edited
✔️ -Rebirth of Lightest - Chunk 2: 10,590 words - 8,154 pre-existing words = 2,436 new words this month
✔️ -Crossing of the Paths - Book 2: Darkness & Light - Chunk 4: 24,486 words - 17,254 wordspre-existing = 7,232 new words this month!
✔️ -TOTAL WORDS WRITTEN IN FEBRUARY 2024: 25,738 words!
❌ -TOTAL WORDS EDITED IN FEBRUARY 2024: 16,070 words
Just like last month, I rolled together the Primary and Secondary objective versions of the COTP work into one entry to avoid the unnecessary math. As you can see I did manage to make my monthly quota this month for raw wordcount, but didn't edit Steel Apotheosis or manage to hit my stretch goal. I also finished my basic edit pass of Fabricating a Rubber Renatoy but am still waiting on wspeirs to finish reading it and give me a final stamp of approval before I call it ready to upload. I wanna make sure I wrote their character properly before tossing it up onto the internet after all!
Since I'm using any words beyond the basic quota for my surplus tracker, and not the stretch goal, that means I did still add a little to my quota this month!
Total ongoing surplus in 2024: 6,132 words!
Not bad! I only needed 5,556 words of surplus to stay on track for my yearly stretch goal, so last month's work exceeding the stretch goal compensated for me not reaching it this month and I'm still on track overall for the 333K total in 2024. Feels good man! Now if I could just kick my own ass into gear and edit Steel Apotheosis then I'd be really damn well on track here!
Speaking of staying on track, let's set up next month's goals.
MARCH 2024 WRITING GOALS
So, as you guys may have seen, we managed to get a kiriban claimed in February! That's going onto the docket for this month on top of the next chunk of Fabricating a Rubber Renatoy. Given I'm shooting for 15K on the Renatoy chunk and 10K on the Kiriban, that makes this month's math pretty easy!
-PRIMARY OBJECTIVES-
-Editing of Steel Apotheosis: 26,671 words to edit
-Fabricating A Rubber Renatoy - Chunk 2: Expected 15,000 words
-Editing of Fabricating A Rubber Renatoy - Chunk 2: Expected 15,000 words to edit
-Untitled Kiriban for Estrus: Expected 10,000 words
-Editing of Untitled Kiriban for Estrus: Expected 10,000 words
-SECONDARY OBJECTIVES-
-Rebirth of Lightest - Chunk 2: At least another 2,778 words to hit the stretch goal, if not more
-Crossing of the Paths - Book 2: Darkness & Light - Chunk 4: However many extra words my Hyperfocus monster may want to do atop all the above goals if time permits
Total Expected Writing Wordcount for March 2024: 25,000-27,778 words
Total Expected Editing Wordcount for March 2024: 51,671 words
There we have it! Primary Objectives are stuff for my friends, secondaries are for me! The writing amount will ideally be at least the same as last month, but there's even more editing to do. Ideally the bullshit workplace drama should be over with now and I should be able to focus more on my writing than last month, so I ought to be able to hit or even exceed my stretch goal again like in January. The further ahead I get, the better prepared I'll be for emergencies and for my upcoming move to a new home.
So cross your fingers everyone! If all goes well I should be uploading quite a lot of writing this month! I think you're really gonna like Steel Apotheosis and the Renatoy story! I'm gonna get to work on all this right away, but as always feel free to hit me up and chat too. See y'all next month!
