Someday Duly, Oneday Truly, Twosday Newly, Till Whensday
a year ago
This is mostly a journal entry I wrote for myself, but feel free to read.
I've been thinking lately. For the longest time, I took a nonlinear approach to my creative pursuits here. As a creative outlet, I wanted to build a world and populate it with characters. However, over time, the narrative got lost in the clutter.
Originally, this whole thing, the vast majority of the characters and vignettes in my gallery, out of a short story I wanted to tell with Tyson and Trace. That story was meant to be a rather small, intimate affair. Over time, I wanted to build up more of their world, and that small, intimate short story was no longer the one I wanted to tell. I still want Tyson and Trace to be the focal point upon which the story is focused, but I want to tell more than just their story.
In short, without needing to drone on for too long, I'm going to rewrite a large chunk of those early chapters and scrap what came before. Now that their world is fully formed, I feel like I can better tell a more cohesive narrative. The vast majority of what's on my gallery will stay the same, but now that my writing's improved, I want to apply a sharper focus to this passion project. Other aspects of it will be retconned to better fit this new approach.
Either way, if you're at all curious in what I do, I'd like to post more about this in the near future when I have everything properly outlined.
As always, thank you. ^_^

I worry about that too.
I spend so much time in my head that I get scared that I'll lose my original story, but so much of a character's mindset and actions are determined by their environment so it's always important to bring that to light too.
You've shown so much of your world and I've only scratched the surface of it's machinations, I really need to stop being so lazy and actually get my ideas out there. I just worry that without much 'visual' references, it might be harder for the audience to really immerse themselves in the atmosphere I try to create.
I love when artists/writers/creators are passionate about what they're doing, and all I can say is Godspeed on the revisions!
Their environment should be as integral to the story as everything else. After all, your characters don't live in a vacuum. Their environment gives context to their conduct.
That's very kind of you to say! Truthfully speaking, a lot of it lives in my head, and it makes perfect sense to me. Even then, however, I've come to realize that it helps to spell out some of it more explicitly. If not, then other people who don't know what's going on will get lost.
I'm the same way with visual references. I believe that, without them, there wouldn't be as much interest. It easier to grow attached if you know what the characters look like. Like you said, it's much easier to become more immersed if you have art to showcase what's going on and who's doing what.
Thanks again, my dude! I wish you the best in your own creative pursuits!! ^^
I hope that you continue to thrive in your creative progress!
I think it'd be interesting, too, if you eventually published all of it in book form, even if only as an eBook. There's lots of potential in your ideas.
I'm not sure how I'd want to go about publishing everything on some future date. We'll have to wait and see. I'm trying to write my own novel first separate from anything here. Truth be told, this was always more a passion project that over time grew well and truly out of hand. ^^
