August 2024 Writing Update: Making up for July
a year ago
Holy fuck guys. You're not gonna believe this one. I can hardly believe this one!
This month was a gigantic success despite dealing with more moving bullshit and other stressful nonsense. I had to make a difficult choice between continuing to stay in the house that I had moved into or going with my older roomie to another new apt, since older roomie couldn't find a proper 1bed place for herself. I decided to go with her, so as I write this I'm looking down the barrel of move #2. I also keep having scares at work that my employer may be considering laying off more people, and if they do then it's almost guaranteed that I'll be getting laid off with that wave. I also agreed to help and send a little money to the person I had agreed to move in with only to up and leave, just because they were counting on my contribution to bills. This means I've had more fiscal stress added onto my plate again while staring down the barrel of MAYBE potentially losing my nice cushy factory job.
Granted, layoffs aren't guaranteed, and I have had friends offer to buy more story comms from me to help with the new fiscal outlays. But I did NOT expect this month to transform into such a success for writing! I busted my goals and then some! It's thanks to some free extra time off work gave us, which is part of what is making me fear layoffs. (They let us have time off because they didn't need help with doing inventory, yikes?!) I basically blitzed out at least 5K per day every day I was off, and then had an INSANE wiriting-splosion on Monday the 26th.
My previous personal best for most writing done in a single day was 12K and some change, and that was during the Thanksgiving vacation from work last year when I was driving myself hard to hit Nanowrimo. This week my muse gripped me like a vice and shouted "WE'RE GOING TO FINISH REBIRTH OF LIGHTEST ENTIRELY TODAY IN ONE GO, FUCKER!!!" I sat down at 6AM to write and suddenly it was 9 hours later and I'd somehow pounded out 15K!
(Smash Bros Announcer Voice) A NEW RECORD!!!
Most Daily Writing by Wordcount: 15,419 words (August 26th, 2024)
Fucking incredible! I honestly shocked myself with that one. It was like my muse spontaneously exploded with every single bit of info I needed to finish Rebirth and the caffeine powered it with energy just right. But that wasn't even the most insane win from this month, let's break it down!

So uh, damn! I think this may be my second most single productive month ever, just behind last year's November where I hit that legendary 100K! As the title of this Journal implies, I've more than made up for last month's failures and then some! This took our previous year-on deficit of 15,345 words and inverted it into a surplus! We now have a year-on surplus of 25,853 words! That's certainly not a record, given how high last year set it, but it's a big swing! A swing of 41,198 words in one month! Pretty fucking amazing work I must say!
Right now we're sitting at 225,853 words written in total for all of 2024, and we only needed 222,224 words to be at our stretch goal. So we're actually even on a stretch goal surplus of 3,629 words!
That means next month I can afford to just shoot for my basic 25K minimum quota and still be well on track to hit the stretch goal anyway! Which is good because I AM going to be moving again shortly, lol
Now you may have noticed that little extra story called "Into the Hive" that snuck into my Secondaries there. That was a one-shot story that sprang into my brain fully-formed and DEMANDED to be written earlier this month. A new member joined my Telegram group and told me how much he loved Sedalia, and that inspired me to want to write a new Drone TF one-shot starring Sedalia, and that's what I did. A nice juicy little 8K appetizer jumped out of my head, and it now just needs a little editing before I post it.
But ah, speaking of editing....
*Does a little tallying*
-EDITING TO-DO LIST- (Counting some incomplete stuff too)
-Bound In Steel: 20,797 words to edit
-Into the Hive: 8,247 words to edit
-Crossing of the Paths - Book 2: Darkness & Light - Chunk 4: 35,646 words to edit
-Crossing of the Paths - Book 2: Darkness & Light - Chunk 5: 27,223 words to edit so far (No fucking clue how many more are coming lol)
-Rebirth of Lightest - Chunk 3: 21,746 words to edit
-Mutagen Origins - Chunk 4: 5,222 words to edit so far, expected a total of 15,000
-Hair of the Dog Part 2: 1,382 words to edit so far, expected a total of 15,000
-TOTAL WORDS TO EDIT ACROSS ALL PROJECTS: 120,263-143,659
Oooooooooooooooooooof
That's A LOTTA EDITING my friends
For comparison, my previous personal best for most editing done in a single month period was 122,040 words in July 2023, back when I had that insane 4th of July Vacation madwoman spree. So theoretically, if I focused down HARD I could edit everything I have in one go, IF I were to just edit what currently exists and not what is expected to be done when I finish Mutagen chunk 4 and Hair Pt. 2. But I also need to do my minimum quota of writing next month too. So, after my move is done, I think I will formally declare next month EDITING CATCH UP MONTH.
SEPTEMBER 2024 WRITING GOALS
(EDITING CATCH UP MONTH!)
So I am going to structure it like this! I will aim for my 25K minimum quota but NO MORE than that. Since I am so supremely over-quota on my main goal, and far enough over-quota on my stretch goal, I don't need to do any over my quota at all. I do wanna finish Hair of the Dog Pt. 2 this month now that Vayl has fully paid for it though, so I'm gonna make HOTD my only Primary goal for raw wordcount and then any leftover to get to the 25K threshhold can be on any story. And once I hit 25K it's gonna be ALL EDITING BABY! Let's break it down
-PRIMARY OBJECTIVES-
-Hair of the Dog Part 2: Still have 13,618 words left to write to reach the 15,000 final total
-ANY OTHER STORY HERE: At least 11,382 words to take us the rest of the way to the quota (Can put any of my secondaries here at the end of the month)
-Editing of Hair of the Dog Part 2: Expected 15,000 words to edit
-Editing of Bound In Steel: 20,797 words to edit
-Editing of Into the Hive: 8,247 words to edit
-Editing of Rebirth of Lightest - Chunk 3: 21,746 words to edit
-SECONDARY OBJECTIVES-
-Crossing of the Paths - Book 2: Darkness & Light - Chunk 4: 35,646 words to edit
-Crossing of the Paths - Book 2: Darkness & Light - Chunk 5: ANY amount of words
Total Expected Writing Wordcount for September 2024: 25,000 words
Total Expected Editing Wordcount for September 2024: 65,790-101,436 words
You'll notice that I left off the editing for the unfinished chunks of Mutagen and COTP for this even though they were on my sum total editing to-do list, and that's because I really think this is MORE THAN ENOUGH to worry about in one month lol. That and I don't really expect to touch the next Mutagen chunk at all this month, to to finish the COTP chunk, and I hate going through and editing something whose rough draft is unfinished. I did still put writing work for COTP Chunk 5 onto the secondaries though, that's because I learned my lesson about not leaving something fun in the secondaries for my Hyperfocus monster to dig its teeth into, heh. There probably will be days where I sit down and try to work on Hair of the Dog and my muse just says FUCK OFF WITH THAT. Hell, it was a day like that that led to me finishing Rebirth in one sitting!
I probably will add one or two secondaries to the list over the course of the month as usual anyway. I've found that it's good not to refuse the muse when it decides it wants to work on something not on the list, that's how we got Into the Hive after all. (I think you Sedalia lovers are really gonna savor that one!)
I'm also probably gonna invite my friends in my Telegram chat to sign up for more writing comms again too this month, and that's gonna add more new stuff to the list too. I already know the lovely decripte has expressed interest in buying a story comm from me to help with my new fiscal problems, and scarlettv has agreed to buy more too once Hair of the Dog is done! So this list will undoubtedly keep growing.
So wish me luck folks! With my luck I'll slam these edits out and you'll be seeing a nice steady trickle of tasty new stories landing in your inbox to enjoy this month! And hey, I am now DEFINITELY certain that I'm gonna do Nanowrimo again this year in a few months when November arrives, so get hyped! I might just write something lewd this time too, instead of a SFW side story that needs to wait years before it gets posted! Heaven knows if I do succeed in Nano again this year that I may even surpass my 333K total yearly stretch goal and get something even wilder!
For now, have a happy September!
