2023 UFFL season week 9 results and week 10 preview!

Hiya, Marty here , with the results of this short week 9!:
- In Las Vegas, the Bandits are on their way to gain some ground over the Outlaws in the division, as they face off against the California Demons. Having upset the Baltimore Ponies last week, the Bandits knew not to take them lightly, and they did just that. While the Demons out-threw the Bandits, Vegas played an efficient game where they rely on the run, running for a combined 156 yards on the Demon's defense. The Demons were out of rhythm all game, as their defense stepped up, thanks to Moises Soto (4 tackles, 1 sack, 1 fumble recovery). Vegas wins this one 27-7.
- In Baltimore, the Ponies were attempting to recover from a bad performance last week, but it would not be easy against a Colorado team there always a challenge to fight against. Christian Wright was still at the helm of the Ponies’s offense, as Jillian St-Claire would soon probably be clear to play. But once more, things were difficult. A 3 INTs day made things tough on Baltimore, As Colorado did its damage with their relentless rushing attack, thanks to another great performance from the rookie Erica Blanche de la Rosa (124 yards rushing, 1 TD). Things were close though, as the Ponies got a shot with a 52 yard pick six from Kiyoshi Kiyama, and a 2 points conversion. Unfortunately, they managed nothing in the fourth, as Colorado would be the only one to score. Colorado wins 27-21.
- In New Orleans, not many people were expecting something out of this one. The old saying of “Any given Sunday “ is well established for this type of game. Many were thinking that an angry Downriver waves would just cause chaos to a Corsairs team that had been trying to find themselves all year, but shockingly, it wasn’t meant to be. Perhaps injuries are starting to be an issue for the Waves, as Lillian Newman is starting to look more mortal for the past two weeks, as she had a below average game today. The Corsairs looked to be sick and tired of being the one always bullied after upsets, and went in with an upset of their own, thanks in part to not only a decent 3rd down conversion rate (8/17) but a big game from their star running back Leone Lopez. The skunk ran for an amazing 163 yards all over the Downriver defensive line, as they were in control all day. Johnny Fields even went in for a few snaps at the end as Flip Penguinator had himself a great game (2 TDs, 112,5 QB rating, no picks). Time to push the panic button in Downriver again? New Orleans wins 34-14.
- In the game of the week, a huge divisional battle was on hand, as The Royal faced off against the Easton Bald Eagles. As they along with the Defiant are contesting for the United East title. They knew they could not let that game slip, and let me tell you, this game was a Defensive slugfest. Both teams were matching up against themselves equally, as Both QBs had a tough run, as Appleby would throw his first 2 INTs of the year, while Draco Lindwurm was “just okay” for Easton, sacked twice. An issue this year, the Eagles were well disciplined, as it was the Royal that were caught with the penalties issues. Both teams had all a hell of a time establishing a running game, as this game would come down to a game of inches. And who would gain those inches you may ask?...It would be Montreal, thanks to stellar work of their offensive line efforts, especially from Saverio Anthony ( 7 pancakes, offensive player of the game! ) Montreal would dominate on the possession time (36:41 to 23:19 for Easton). Also in a game in which points came at a premium, Kicker Skye Crista showed why they were one of the best kickers in the league, as they kicked 3 crucial FGs in the second quarter (46,45,52 yards). Easton would bring the game close in the third, as they managed a late TD by Lyra Murphy. But in the fourth, Montreal gave them nothing. In this game of chess, Royal’s coach Machiocha went in and called “Checkmate.” Montreal wins this battle of wits 16-14.
Players of the week:
Offense: Leone Lopez - RB (NOC) 168 yards rushing, 1 TD.
Defense: Moises Soto - DE (LVB) 4 tackles, 1 sack, 1 fumble recovery
Special Teams: Skye Crista - K (MTL) 3/3 FGs
