March 2025 Writing Journal: Ok there's the suck
5 months ago
If I could just make the entire intro segment of this journal a picture of my corpse being dragged into and out of my workplace I probably would.
But ah, there's at least some other context and info.
The good: Ever since I used that fuel additive designed to clean a car's catalytic converter, the p0420 check engine light has stopped and not come back. I'm trying my best not to get my hopes up or jinx myself, but it's starting to look like I may be out of the woods with that issue. Which is good because I CANNOT afford a $1,500+ catalytic converter replacement bill
The Bad: I still feel miserably paranoid that the suspension in my car feels wobbly and too bouncy. Even though my roomie has ridden with me and says it feels/sounds fine. Goddamn fucking anxiety 😭
The good: I saved up a shitton of money doing literally a whole month of overtime in March, so my bills situation is well handled for now
The Bad: I ended up so fucking tired from working 60-70 hours a week that my muse basically died a horrible death. No way I could balance my writing goals with that amount of work
The Good: I still treated myself to a LITTLE bit more art comms since I was pulling in good money
The Bad: Said art is taking awhile to get finished
The Good: I still haven't been laid off yet despite the economy tanking
The Bad: There's no guarantee that still can't happen at any fucking time and I spend my every waking hour dreading it deep in my soul
So yeah, I've had worse months than this but I've also had a lot better too. As you can imagine, my output was... not great.
MARCH 2025 WRITING SUMMARY
So the overtime was most of march, and once it was over I still needed almost 2 weeks to recuperate anyway afterward. I skipped overtime on my birthday weekend of the 22nd/23rd and just needed to vegetate and rest. I tried writing again on the weekend of the 29th/30th too but my muse was still only just emerging from its tomb and only got about 2K done. I'm only finally back to my full output as of this posting, well into April. That's also why this Update Journal was so friggin late. x_x

Woof. That's a whole lotta red X's. The only reason I even gave myself a check mark at all on The Other Path was because it was an "Any amount of words" goal. It would have been straight X's otherwise. The COTP editing added a bunch more words since I had to rewrite an entire segment to better fit what I wanted, but there's still plenty left to check and fix.
This definitely sets me back a lot on my yearly totals. My year-on deficit has grown to 29,320 words. OUCH.
I have so much to work on, but at least I feel like my muse has FINALLY recovered. Might as well move on to the next section to discuss that though.
APRIL 2025 WRITING GOALS
So, this month I heard that the official NaNoWriMo organization shut down. I'm not particularly upset, they fucking deserved it after basically inviting people to cheat their challenge with AI. You guys remember last year I did a knockoff challenge after all, called FicWriMo. Well, this month I also discovered a new challenge called the Royal Road Writeathon. This one is a bit harder, you have to write 55,555 words between April 1st-May 5th. That's a little more than a month, and even more words.
Granted, I don't plan to formally join Royal Road's website to participate, especially since one of their main rules is that all 55,555 words have to be written on one single project and I prefer to spread out my work across several. But even if I don't formally sign up to RR to join, I'm gonna shoot for their wordcount goal this week! Let's breakdown my plan for it.
-PRIMARY OBJECTIVES-
-Untitled Comm for ah1987: Expected 7,500 words
-Editing of The Arinafication of House Inagaki Chunk 1: 17,610 words to edit
-Editing of The Arinafication of House Inagaki Chunk 2: 20,805 words to edit
-Untitled Comm for lateinshowing: Expected 15,000 words
-Untitled Comm for dreadfulart: Expected 15,000 words
-SECONDARY OBJECTIVES-
-Crossing of the Paths - Book 2: Darkness & Light - Chunk 6: ANY wordcount out of an expected final total of 35,000 words
-Editing of Crossing of the Paths - Book 2: Darkness & Light - Chunk 5: 36,547 words to edit
-The Other Path - Pyrogenesis - Chunk 1: However many words come out of finishing transcription out of my paper notebook
-Tellurium Chains - Chunk 1: ANY wordcount
-ROULETTE SPIN SLOT!!! - ANY wordcount
Total Expected Writing Wordcount for April 2025: 27,778-55,555 words
Total Expected Editing Wordcount for April 2025: 74,962 words
Yeah, I basically copied and pasted last month's goals since I accomplished nothing. Only difference is I added the next COTP chunk and upped the higher end of the expected wordcount range.
Do I think I can pull this off? Well MAYBE. Since it's now the beginning of a new business quarter, I know work isn't going to offer any more overtime again for 2 months so that won't get in my way. So, as long as the economic implosion going on right now doesn't cause my job to go bye-bye, and my car doesn't implode, I'm optimistic that I can pull it off.
Granted, I may not actually finish all my commissions this month. Big wordcount months often require me to keep a baseline minimum of time working on self-indulgent stuff like COTP and TC too, so I suspect I may finish 1 or maybe 2 comms if I'm lucky, with the rest going to COTP and TC, or any extra roulette spin slot I pick. But hey, a 55,555 month would seriously help cancel out the massive debt pile I built in March, so I'm gonna go for it. If I hit that 55K by May 5th and it still turns out to be mostly self-indulgent stuff rather than comms I'm not going to complain. I am very grateful my friends are so patient to deal with my delays!
Just... pray for my job, guys. I work in manufacturing and the recent market crash is fucking terrifying. I'm praying to Arceus as we speak. Wish me luck. 🫠
