The often unusual musings of an old cat
I was trained as both a Driver and a Gunner on an AVGP Cougar. I had done my Driver course first and the next year was sent on Gunner. We were between taskings and sitting idle on the back deck of the vehicle and I was flipping a hinged metal cap back and forth.
Guy: Do you know what that thing is that you're idlily playing with?
Me: Armored fuel cap, keeps a stray round from getting into the tank.
Guy: Very good. There's another one at the front of the vehicle in case the gun is over the back deck.
Me: Nooooo, that's the coolant reservoir, and I highly recommend not putting diesel into it.
Guy: Really?
Guy2: Smitty has Driver, I'm going with him.

He was wrong.
This is why I am not a fan of "context cues" as source of information.
