Give me those vacant office buildings with no windows and maze like cubicles. Give me the tile shower rooms with endless curves and faucets on every wall. Give me that house with those oddly painted pastel walls and green rugged stairs leading to nowhere.

I feel like Kane Parsons really rescued it by refocusing back to weird endless alien corridors and adding found footage as major element whereas previously it was morphing into goofy faction and monster catalog worldbuilding project with numbered layer nonsense.

I love pool rooms, it's nostalgic for me as I was an afterschool kid so after school my bus would drop me and some other kids off at an activity center until my parents could pick me up after work.

funny enough, same? shied away from it b/c of the overdone-ness for a while but lately i've been poking at a minecraft modpack (liminal industries) that manages to capture that feeling of... weirdness and mostly emptiness.

A thousand times this! Backrooms type settings don't need to have monsters. I love it if the paranoia and ambiance makes you *think* there's something there but when there's actually different monsters complete with their own gimmicks and such... it just becomes another generic horror setting.

Yeah I feel like people really underestimate how creepy just hearing a noise is, also navigating a space that isn't made for humans but looks like it was is really neat still; particularly dangerous architecture where its like "oh thats a 30 story drop after that third step"

I like that one game that was pretty much inspired by the og backrooms where you're in a school after hours and there's cryptids like a goddamn giant ear man. It seems like there's too many spinoffs and inspired games to count now

The original backrooms was very good at portraying the feeling of being trapped. Fake buildings with fake skies and all that. It wasn't even a new concept at all, but the presentation and feel of the original backrooms was very good at portraying that captive feeling.

I really feel like when damn near anything is done this well (like the original backrooms was) people assume that whatever the subject matter is, (in this case, liminal spaces) is what makes it good. In my opinion, this is only half true. Yes, liminal spaces and analog horror and all that stuff are spooky wooky, but to me the original backrooms series carried most of the weight through it's execution.

Oh and what the hell man wuts wrong with SCPs? Yeah some are dumb but to me, if all you have to do to fix it is make more better ones, then I don't really see a problem.

The lived experience makes liminal spaces more immersive and surreal.

It's funny how the actual story behind the backrooms photo kind of embodies the whole liminal vibe. It was an empty furniture store display space, so the lack of furniture for this staged area just amplified how 'wrong' the whole space looked. No windows, no frames of reference of where it was spatially or what purpose it was supposed to serve, only that it was this sort of 'transitory space' people weren't supposed to remain in.
