Painkiller
I've seen the trailer for the new Painkiller game, and I'm a little bummed out that it seems to be following the recent Doom game's direction of generic dark fantasy with some guns thrown in. The levels (if there were even more than one featured) all look the same, and the enemies look pretty uninspired.
The original Painkiller wasn't anything revolutionary, but it had a decent amount of personality and variety. In one level, you're shooting skeletons in a graveyard or stomping through a medieval village overrun by witches, and in the next, you're gunning down resurrected soldiers on a military base or fighting hordes of zombies in a post-apocalyptic city.
This playlist does a good job of showing off the levels and the like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V27.....nkH2gK8t3K2COS
I'm not sure if it's because I'm getting older or if game companies are using the same engines, but most new games tend to look rather similar, at least in comparison to older titles.
Maybe I just hate fun - that could also be the issue here.
Bleh.
I just wanted to voice my disappointment with the new PK, even if said voice is being thrown into a void lol

I'm not even a particularly big fan of Painkiller. I played it on the Xbox waaaaaay back when wheels were square, and I had a good time with it, and though I wasn't chomping at the bit for a new one, seeing what they've done to it is a little irksome, because it looks as if they've just copied Doom's homework and then slapped their own name on it when they could've taken it into another, more unique direction.
Hell, I'd have taken a Dead Space 2023-style remake of the original over what they've shown.
OG Painkiller was really good though, plus Doom-ifying it means that it suddenly has to compete with both Doom and Witchfire, so good luck.
Aside from Painkiller, Turok is a great example of this - People have been waiting since like 2002 for a proper Turok game (not counting that 'gritty and realistic' Turok that came out in 2008), and instead they're making some 3rd person coop shooter where the characters have super powers/supersuits that (at least from what I've gleamed from the trailer), absorb the powers of dinosaurs they kill?
Oooough.
I swear, these devs just do this shit to get a reaction from people, like energy vampires feeding on the masses of disgruntled KOOL GAMURS lol
