Culture of Norlynn - Twin Rivers
Twin Rivers is the largest city in Norlynn by population. It sits at the convergence of two massive rivers. There has been a settlement in this location for at least 10,000 years, for most of that time based around rich oyster beds. Its first population was Lupine tribes, a population which in recent history built vast sewer networks and towering skyscrapers. Twin Rivers was the first city in Norlynn to industrialize, a concept brought to them by Canines from overseas, a process which spread rapidly throughout the country soon after. Today its the financial capitol of Norlynn, with some lingering industry. Twin Rivers is also part of a small remaining strip of land controlled by the federal government of Norlynn after its near complete collapse 30 years earlier, with two other major cities.
Twin Rivers has a modest oyster and seafood production, but otherwise has very few resources. Mainly its economy is based on trade, education, banking, etc. There is some remaining industry, mainly things like food processing and shipbuilding/maintenance. It also has the largest port in the country, a port which also rarely freezes over.
The geography of the city varies. Downtown is relatively flat, but there are neighborhoods that are a little hilly in parts of it. Twin Rivers has a mild climate, with winters only getting just below freezing, and into the 20s Fahrenheit at coldest normally. It tends to rain a lot as well. Summers are warm and often humid. Besides its two largest rivers it has hundreds of smaller streams and tributaries.
Its a city of several large species groups, largest of them being the native Lupine, and second being the Crocuta who arrived about 200 years ago. There's always been tension between these groups, and it flared up into all out violence after the near complete collapse of the federal government, and resulting chaos and uncertainty. Other than them Twin Rivers also has several smaller species groups, includine the native Equine, Didels, Odocoileus, Latrans, Kaklak, etc. And other outlander(non-native) groups like Canines, Draconids, and Uncias. (Some of these names are entirely made up. Others are just the Latin names of animals. Also many of the native groups are species from different regions of Norlynn). The Kaklak are perhaps the most unique culturally, living almost their entire lives on floating homes and old decommissioned wooden boats.
The population of Twin Rivers was 7 million before the national collapse, about 5 million now. Many people left due to lack of opportunity, as well as conflicts taking place between certain neighborhoods.
Despite its decline Twin Rivers is a center of culture in Norlynn, with a massive array of cuisine, art and educational institutions. Its also a relatively wealthy place despite the country's hardships.
