When you Adopt - Adoptables....
Do you actually Plan to use them in the Future?
When you see an adopt and you place a Bid in an Auction, or Purchase Via Buyout for the Asking Price, do you actually have plans or intend to use it?
I know a couple of people who have admitted to me, they just want to support the Artist, and that is absolutely AMAZING of them, especially the People that Spend the Big Buck and do the complete AB - Autobuys
But then...a few of them I notice....dont even use them....and its...VERy upsetting.
I wont rant about about Money, because thats not the point, the point is, just buying a design to claim the rights to it...and then...quite literally never using it for anything.
And not just myself, but Ive seen people get very upset about this, because maybe they wanted it and had plans, and now its gone to somebody who just lets it sit and not see ANY use. Ever
Its the Owners Right, dont get me wrong or misunderstand me being a Crybaby. (Even though I am)
But IDK, just kinda sucks y'know.
Sometimes I wonder about attempting to ask the person, if I compensate them 50% if I could Co-own. I know that probably sounds very silly and stupid. But for real, its very upsetting to see people just buy a design, and NEVER use it.
Again, its their Right. They won it and paid for it fair and square. Again...just sucks lol
Anybody else agree or disagree?
Just ramblings.

OH, lol you've had Valoayz for a while and I somehow never noticed! Bird Bias XD, cause I always remembered Kaamiksuu
I fully intend to but I only have so much funding for art and I usually spoil my main characters..... Now if funds were unlimited or at least large I would definitely commission way more art of all of my characters
But then again it does break my heart when I find an absolutely stunning character that was purchased a long time ago and never used, I've been tempted to try and make an offer but I don't want to be rude, who knows maybe they're on a different platform and don't upload to the ones I use
But then again I am that dumbass who spends thousands on a fursuit and haven't worn him in a few years now... I think we're all just a mess on different levels XD
And Yesh, man Id hate myself on the fursuit thing. npt to shame anybody because Ive spent about that much collectively on Commissions and Adopts combined. But yeah, for real, every artist would be eating good if commissioners had unlimited Funding at least to a degree....which Id say some of us did half a decade ago XD
Man time flies, and times change....
Hell even just ask to buy it off the person if they never commission stuff of said character.
--Even if you get bit in response at least you can say you tried.
I mean who knows they might just agree that the character is collecting dust or they could simply use some cash!
This all said, to the initial question I say;
Depends on the adopt? Some you might value more than others.
IF someone asked me to sell a character I didn't feel incredibly attached to but they loved it to hell I'd absolutely do that.
I...know a couple people, and Ive kinda asked them and pointed out some characters were just collecting dust, and they kinda....did NOT like it to say the least. And called it Rude. Even pointing out the characters lack of use. SOME people are just.....I guess weird like that, and possessive.
I just mainly mean like Adopt that quite literally get no use.
Im not sure Id offer to buy an OC that was handmade, and I would feel confident about trying to buyout a character that hasn't seen use in a while but at least already has art.
Like, that could be flipped on me, I haven't used a handful of my characters for a while....so by that logic someone might try to make an offer on them since I haven't used them, and Id certainly turn them down, because I, both still attached to them, and plan to use them again in the future.
So Id personally have a hard time doing that, since I wouldn't want it done to me.
But, hey, good thoughts.
But yeah, kinda sucks there are people much richer then me, that literally, just collect.
And then let the design rot forever
But yeah, just sucks to see a cool design you MIGHT want just go to waste
I cringe looking back at how much Ive collectively wasted on Art Commissions....and think about how rich I might be.
.....but then again, that money might have just gone to something else, like Food. Or like 1 of my friends, Clothes, or another one...videogame.
Or my car...if I drove.
So I guess in the end, there is always a money sink in some form. XD
I wis I was able to collectively make them ALL share a universe. But because of how I write my characters, maybe only a few of them could co-exist, and sometimes thats only if I create Side-canons.
Like.....my Rat Girl is a Western Character. So the only way she'd co-exist is if I make side ideas with my other characters as if they were in a Western.
Or my Crow Guy who is Medieval fantasy, and my Dog girl who is am modern-day Celebrity. In their base designs, they are made a certain way and wouldn't naturally exist together.
So then I occasionally have fun ideas to Make my Dog girl a witch, or the rat girl something that would fit in the dog girls universe.
Im just weird like that lol
I do understand getting annoyed that some people adopt characters and then they don't even bother to post the adopt onto FA to let people know that the character has a home. X, bsky, telegram etc etc is all good, but with so many imposters around, it is hard to tell who actually owns characters if the buying account never posted.
Just sucks to see a design get bought and never get used.
Because that mainly works if you buy the more lucrative and expensive adopts, and sell them to others with that kinda money.
No shade, I just cant do that XD
I have discovered a few old one adopts, that I got years ago. That I’m trying to do something with.
I can see why people can get upset for seeing an adopted character, go ‘abandoned’ after being bought years later.
I’m kind of indifferent on the whole deal. Since, I haven’t done a lot with older one, I’ve gotten. But, I’m trying to fix that. 😅
Because at the end of the day, the picture surved its intended purpose. To be sold.
Everything else is extra and doesnt benifet the original artist.
Especially if its a cool character, Ill be robed of seeing them in action XD
And yeah, typically you buy a design to use it.
But apparently people buy designs, just cause, lol
I just cant imagine buying a design, and never using it
But then at the end i used the snake like once.. but recently i creater another character, and still gave him more love, and bought for her more arts then for the adoptable, found out that if you create one, you find giving it more love then just adoptable, adoptables are stunning, but overall, i think just getting art with it, would probably suffice my hunger for them.
Felt the same, sad not giving love to other characters, but then again when you have your main, You want to give them the most love, show them around, use them as artwork on steam etc- so even i attempted to buy recently another absolutely stunning design, i am kinda happy i was over bid, knowing i could probably not give them the same love-
" You get more attached to characters you created, then adopted"
Which I can say is mostly true. But at least half of my Cast is Created, and Adopted. I guess the design has to TRUELY speak to you, and have a purpose.
I see just having, making, and adopting characters willy nilly will backfire, because there is no attachment or drive.
Im definitely guilty of this.
Just having characters willy nilly with no real plan...just an idea, then they rot
Belle was a free adopt and we both got so much use out of her :)
Then of course there is rich people that hoard. lol.
Im happy to be part of Belle's Journey :)
Little sad I dont see more of her, but I know art is expensive
Single.
Adopt.
That I go for, I have plans for and I care for. I have a very bad habit of developing backgrounds, relationships, and personalities for certain adoptables and (if the price is in reason), I'll usually try to bid on them. If I lose? Then such is life, but I DO try to go for them because I'm passionate about them.
I have tons of content and story-related stuff in my head (don't get me started, I WILL talk you to death XD). But due to funds n such, I can't really get them fleshed out in the art pieces I want. So with money being a huge and primary factor to me, I think of scenes and scenarios in my head (these peeps I adopt have TONS of story-related material) but I don't normally get art pieces because either the artist is not open for comms at that moment or I don't have money for it, or both.
But just like my OCs that I develop from the ground up. I treat the adopts I buy with the same level of TLC.
I get where you're coming from with the co-owning of a character, and I even get supporting the artist, however when I adopt someone, it's because I genuinely love that character and I have a place for them in my little world and they become apart of me. :)
But, me personally, I don't think I could really go for co-owning a character unless that character both IS and STARTED in a world that both me and the other person developed, and there's only 2 times I've done that and I know both of those people IRL and could drive to see them if I wanted.
That's just my 2 cents.
In hindsight, Id probably be bad to co-own a character with. Because I might but heads with ideas (Even if its just a side canon...because it might create huge inconsistencies)
And I may either use the Character MORE, or LESS then the other person. It just wouldn't be a fair 50/50 regardless
I know I'm bad about that, xD
I'mma try and be better, I promise!
There was a time back in my really naïve days where I agreed to adopt a special character (that I loved very much) from a trusted "friend" on the condition that I would return the character if they suddenly couldn't live without them again. The "friend" waited for the first artwork to come from a popular artist. Suddenly, the "friend" yearned for adopt the character again, so I returned the character (begrudgingly) out of respect for that friend.
The "friend" almost immediately re-sold the character for more money to a customer who dissappeared the character off of the face of the planet. The artist removed the artwork of the special character from their page. I have a feeling that something was said between the "friend" and the artist (or new adopter) behind closed doors, but I have no proof. Whatever the case, my good relationship with the artist wasn't so good anymore. :/
Anger from that incident has left me to my own devices. If I buy a character that seems to have no artwork, then there is a good chance that I have un-published world-building centering on them. I would rather keep a pile of un-used characters that I like instead of being burnt again. Some friends have expressed interest in some of my closed species adopts that I had bought from them. In that closed species community, the characters get traded around a lot. I would like to give a few of mine a new home one day, but not at the expense of being a fool or a vending machine. o3o
And no, even if its a friend, I wouldn't just "Give Back" a character, especially after I invested in them
To me, and the series of events here, they just saw an opportunity to make money and kind of used you.
Also...I have 2 other friends with a relationship like that. And...it doesn't make sense to me. But Im not gonna be rude. Especially because in my initial journal, I talked about co-ownership, and have pretty much acted like Ill either put more work into it, or possibly not as much work, so it wouldn't really be 50/50
Like a School Project with Teams. There is always 1 person who does everything OR does NOTHING.....and I hate that.
That's a really useful situation to think about (co-ownership). Sometimes it really is like a school project in terms of one person commissioning most of the artwork. I can see why you hate that.
Of the characters I have adopted currently, all were blank slates designed by artists except one, Ronin. When I adopted him I ended up rewriting him almost completely, it is almost melancholic to think that the version of Ronin made by this other person has ceased to exist, but I did feel compelled to update the previous owner and tell them that Ronin is in good hands
If you dont have ideas immediately...then whats the point?! XD
I prefer Blank-slates. because then I can go Full -IAMYOURCREATOR- with it XD
Kaji & Uuna are the only characters with Premades...Uuna mainly because she was part of a "Business Dinos" adopt series. So I worked off of that...and now shes a Tech & Science Wizz in her company XD
And Kaji had a Pre-established character bio. I MOSTLY worked with it, but of course added my own flair and changed a few thing...ended up loving them more then I thought I would
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/52215696/
that...feels the WORSE, because you cant even see what they WOULD do with the Character....if they arnt just some rich(er) person with money to waste
Also, I know some people like that, but like, maybe years later, commissioned lik a lazy Headshot. And thats it. "Look I used the character"
Who knows, maybe they at least RP...because actually, that was kinda how I started. I just wanted a picture or 2 as images for RPCs...untill I really got into actually commissioning art and getting neat lore-driven are. Or fun outfit designing.
