today, has been a very sad, slow day for me. not to bum anyone out, or to try make people feel bad for me; but sometimes thats just how life is. i would keep this for personal journals but i think such a small little animal deserves to be read about, not just written and forgotten
our hamster passed away in our hands today. he was very old and we were anticipating this due to a tumor we had found a couple weeks back, but its still heartbreaking. he was a important little one and i want people to know that. he was a very strong baby who gave us a lot smiles or bites, and the ways hed beg us for snacks through his habitat would always get us to give him a little extra. every time he looked at us with annoyance as he knew he was getting fresh bedding but had to be woken up. i love you little friend.
he left this world surrounded by warmth, by the two people who loved him the most. who sat there for hours, holding, petting and whispering every little bit that makes him special to us, just to make sure he felt warmth and presence throughout the pain he faced until his very last breath. he is loved, and he is remembered, even for just one little tiny being who can do only so little.
he will be rested at his final resting place once the rain passes, but for now may he rest eternally wrapped in cotton & bedding, with my favorite handtowel; soft and unused, still with its tags saved just for him. may it be the blanket that keeps him warm and reminds him even as he as reunited with the earth, the sand that love will envelop you tight in death and not let you be forgotten.
