I don't understand self-imposed Gaming Challenges

Let's begin.
Now, I understand that we all want to challenge ourselves every now and then, but one thing I refuse to do is play a game in a certain way that goes against the way it's supposed to be played. For example, Nuzlocke playthroughs of Pokemon games. Since Pokemon can easily be popped back up at a Center or a Revive item, I don't understand the point. In fact, it's always come off as cruel to me. You're basically abandoning a Pokemon just for getting KO'ed in battle, pretending that it's "dead". Doing these playthroughs doesn't make you a "hardcore gamer". It makes you a horrible trainer.
If a game gives me useful tools for me to use, I'm going to use them. I will use these helpful mechanics if I need them. I'm not going to nix them from whatever playthrough I'm doing just to feel "special". Play games the way they were intended. There's no reward for self-imposed challenges, either in game, or in the real world.

The best part about nuzlockes is that you can create whatever kind of rules that you want for them. There's the "hardcore" nuzlocke, but there's also a ton of others. Ive done a few where is possible to revive fallen members under certain conditions
Personally I think it all depends on who is the one playing it. Like sure, you'll get the people that just throw out a Pokemon as death fodder and won't blink an eye. But then you'll have the people that break down and pause to think of what they can do in such a hard situation.
Nuzlockes I know won't appeal to everyone. And I can definitely see and understand your point of view and opinions on them. I just wanted to say that every time I have ever ran a Nuzlocke, I have remembered every Pokemon that joined my team.
