Are pets worth it?

Let's begin.
Another of my family's furry friends has passed the rainbow bridge. Buddy, a rescue dog that had been saved from some cruel home in the past. Not all the details are known. He had a few medical problems, but he seemed to be holding on. Until today. His suffering had to stop.
And so soon after I lost Violet.
I've been wondering if its even worth it. These creatures come into our lives. We care deeply for them. Make them a part of our families. And then, before we realize it... they're gone. And it never gets easier.
And yet, for some reason, you never regret those moments. You don't regret that you've given them better lives than what they had. So at the very least, when their time comes, they will have at least known love. So yes. It is worth it. Even if it hurts.

Seeing how my aunt and uncle love dogs, and lost three thus far... it's more complex from what I've seen.
