Didn't we used to have a parliament-type institution?

Karno's Rare-Because-He-Never-Has-Time Blather:
I'm sure everyone has heard of Prump's latest distraction from the Epstein files, "Operation Because I Felt Like It - What are You gonna do about it, LOSERS?!". Nobody misses Kahmeinei, or whatever that mass-murdering scumbag's name was. But there's also a bunch of innocent people getting killed, as happens in most wars. That's not so good.
So wouldn't it be great if we had some sort of legislative body that could debate whether going to war was a good idea or not, and then vote to either declare war or abstain? And have the authority to make that decision stick? That way, some adult thought might temper the rush to war. Wouldn't that be nice? I sure wish we had something like that.
Let's wrap up with a joke, just to avoid ending on a bitter note:
"What's the difference between a prostitute and a congressman?
- The Congressman gets paid more."
But I think that's fair. The Congressperson screws a lot more people!
PS: Does anyone think it's weird that our Health and Human Services secretary is pooh-pooing vaccines and thus encouraging new epidemics of diseases we thought we'd gotten rid of through those same vaccination programs? I mean, how many US kids have died of measles, so far? How can he possibly get away with such blatant dereliction of duty?
Because it's not dereliction. He's doing his job. He's just not working for US. You see, the billionaires in their rarefied little bubble look down on us poor people, and opine that there are way too many of us. But they're JUST bright enough to understand that if they went around randomly "reducing" the population with machine-guns, there just might be unpleasant repercussions for themselves.
But if they talk us moronic masses into rendering ourselves vulnerable to deadly diseases, then the resulting deaths aren't THEIR fault, are they? A beautifully self-regulating scheme, where only the dumbest volunteer for death by disease. Or are volunteered by their idiot parents. No force is applied, no camps are built - the morons Darwin themselves out of the gene pool. From the billionaires' point of view, it's beautiful. And so cheap!

Alexandre de Moraes (the DICKtator in the supreme court of Brazil) was exposed in another colossal scandal, despite his attempts to cover himself from being involved with the Master Bank; and the president's son is even more wrapped in a welfare scandal that took money from retired people to put into his own pockets and that of his buddies.
Right there Kjartan. Taking out cretins and scumbags is one thing, but getting innocents in the crossfire is another, and unacceptable.
And if the cretins are so concerned with overpopulation, that should be decent enough incentive to advance space travel/colonization and such.
So yeah, avoid wars when possible, end them quickly. Also, it's easier to do both when you have a overwhelming advantage, like more/better weapons, soldiers, technology...etc
Does wonders by convincing the belligerents that it's a bad idea to start with.
In this particular case, that would be the IRGC. The Epstein stuff is horrible, but it's also unrelated. The U.S. has been at fault for other things, but not when it comes to this war.
Also, we should probably end(or at least amend) the Permanent Apportionment Act and increase the size of the House; my take is that it would decrease the power distance if you had smaller House districts and fewer people electing each Representative. Again, those who whine about finding space in DC can easily be reminded that we live in 2026 and remote conferencing is a thing.
BUT mandate Article 2 Section 4 of the Constitution be modified to state that congress shall ONLY meet (I will be generous and grant 3 times a year) 3 times per year and shall only receive a stipend (not a full time salary) as outlined in section 6.
Basically the idea is that we need to eliminate the concept that being in Congress is a 12 month full time annual job. The original purpose was for elected members of Congress to stay in, work in, and live in their districts and ONLY come to DC for sessions a few times per year.
The original text of the Constitution states once annually in the first week of December.
and i agree, both the 16th and 17th amendments should go.
Can't even post a link about health here.
Then we tried to manage the monster we'd created by supporting their opposition... Sadam Hussein's Iraq. (Yes, we knew he did have WMDs, because we gave them to him. The big question was: "does he still have any, or did he already use them all against the Kurds?")
Meanwhile, Iran has continued to fester and things have been an absolute nightmare for the Iranians themselves... who are actually very, very, very happy about what's happening now.
And given that the Arab nations are joining the coalition against the IRGC, this has hopeful implications... this could be the perfect excuse for Arab leaders to change their rhetoric from "we will never ever stop until Israel is destroyed... someday, not today, but we'll get around to it sooner or later," to "our dear and good friend Israel, who has saved us from the Ayatollah and his monstrous regime... we shall forgive Israel for all its previous trespasses and let bygones be bygones..."
(because they have to rationalize whatever they do, in order to save face. So they have to pretend that Israel earned the enmity, so they can "forgive" them)
There is not even a real plan for Iran here but complete destabilization so greater Israel can be instated. Any pretense of giving people freedom or democracy are pure theatrics and we have seen those countless times.
When someone in his position starts talking about rituals that will heal the country instead of... you know... modern behavior... I'm completely done with them.
