Ivan was originally an experiment from an undisclosed eastern bloc military's experiment on creating an all terrain sniper/scout (emphasis on scout). Hence why they started with an otter, and added wings (Air, ground, water). The electronics are enhancements (he is minorly cybernetic, geared towards endurance, stealth and survival, not strength or any bad-ass weaponry or such mary sue-isms ;) )
The VRSHADES stands for Variable Range Scout Headset Advanced Digital Extrapolation System. Various multi-optics (Thermal, Nightvision, Infrared, UV, limited penetrative(very limited)) are bundled in the headset, as well as a smart linked system to any weapons he carries that are capable of that (i.e. if the weapon has a camera and a smart link, he can see through the camera on the gun around a corner through the VRSHADES). It's linked through a cybernetic sub-network built along his nervous system at the arms and head to the ruggedized, EMP proof arm computer on his arm.
He doesn't NEED the VRSHADES to see, they are just an enhancement. On an asthetic level, I always liked wrap around head displays like that ^^.
on an odd note since none of the pictures ever have it:
He has a lift pack. Think of it has a muffled, low power jet pack. He cannot fly just with his wings, though he can glide for a good distance. The pack helps him attain altitude so he can glide
I see...wouldn't some kind of collapsible gliding unit work? I mean, wings are cool...but they get kinda..bulky if the base figure was not designed for them.
yeah but on an OOC level, my fursona has always had wings ^^. And originally the plan was supposed to be self sufficiency. They "project" was deemed a failure mostly because they COULDN'T get one that had wing that self lifted (he wasn't the first, though he was the last (most refined) before the project was cancelled).
is he abnormally large down there? and do the shades have a yiffing protocol system in there too :D i think it would be fun if it did :P (yes, i came in here and made it dirty mwahahahahhah)

well he is 5'2" in fursona, and about 8" so i guess techcnially he would be abnormally sized for his height.
As for the VRSHADES? NAww they are just a heads up display for the arm comp and multi optics device
Most just call him Ivan or Vanya (which is the Russian "familiar" for Ivan, like Mark would be for Marcus, Ben for Benjamin, etc).
