Organs for sale...

Man, I gotta update my journal X3
So, I guess I'll start off with the movie I saw 2 weeks ago, Repo men...
WARNING! MAY BE SPOILERS! (although why you would care now since its "old" is beyond me XD)
So, the premise of the movie is, in the near future, due to the miracles of modern science, people are living longer because if ever you need an organ of some sort, the Union can provide you with awesome artificial organs. However, because of supply and demand, the organs are very expensive, to the point that if you are overdue for your payments for your cyborg enhancements, the Union will send out repo men to take your organs by force, whether you still need them or not. The focus is on the best repo men of the district, Remy, who loves his job. He treats it like any normal 9-5 job, take them down, reposes the organs, then have a drink afterwork with his buddies, joking around and not caring about the people who they reposes the organs from. However, in typical movie fashion, the roles are reversed when during an easy repo job, a freak accident occurs and he ends up needing an artificial heart himself. Being an awesome repo man, he should be able to make all his payments on time, however, by becoming a cyborg himself, he starts to feel the pain of the people he reposes organs from, to the point that he can't even cut open another human being to do his job. After being overdue in payments, he starts getting chased by repo men from his own company, to the point he has to take refuge with other overdue organ users in slums in the city. Now he has a choice, either he reap these people's organs to go back to the Union, or stand and fight against them. >=3
Ok, I gotta admit, it's a pretty cool concept. Repo men cutting people up to get back organs? The lessons in humanity versus just doing what your told because its your job? The violence? It should be a 4 - 5/5 star movie, but to me, it felt like a 2 - 3/5 star movie. For one thing, the story just seems ok, it seems like its supposed to be a lot better, but just falls flat. The characters also fall flat. The main guy Remy, played by Jude Law, just doesn't seem likable enough. Hell, I like his former partner, Jake, played by Forest Whitaker, more, just because for a guy his size and build, he kicks ass, and his jovial manner just wins me over. XD
And then there's the violence. Don't get me wrong, I love violence as much as the next red-blooded american, but the violence here is like over-the-top! This kind of gratuitous violence is almost on par with asian horror gore-fest movies, and I say almost because asian gore-fest movies will still win out. There's a part in the movie where Remy and his new main squeeze(who's internal organs are almost composed of artificial organs) have a chance to erase their accounts from the Unions database, but in order to do that, they have to use a hand scanner, cut into their own bodies, force the scanner into their own bodies to scan the barcode on the artificial organ without removing it. Ok, in theory, the idea sounds painful, gory but cool, but the way they handled it just made it seem so much more sexual than its supposed to be. They were shoving the scanner into themselves, but they were also hugging and kissing and grinding in a bloody, mashochistic sort of way. I mean really? Their so used to the pain that they can get off like that? And not only that, there's blood everywhere! I guess in the near future, they eliminated all forms of fluid-transmitted diseases. Hivs anybody? Hello? >=(
Overall, if your curious about the movie, go see it, but if your expecting a great movie, dont' hold your breath. =3

OP
Gorey movies are a funny thing. Sometiems, it just seems so ludicrous that it becomes funny, which is some of the appeal of horror movies besides the scares. This movie however went with a more serious tone, so it's really a toss up
