OMG! The worst news ever! :( Non-urgent, but still.

So, I found out today that my flash drive is 100% dead. There is no getting the files back.
hmgauss even took it to his company today where they can recover files from drives and even then it wouldn't work.
So, that just means I not only lost over 400+ hours on Victorian research including, but not limited to the East End, Cockney rhyming slang (that was accurate for that time), upper-class etiquette, lower-class lifestyle, household living, what certain items cost, over 200 slang words and phrases, and every ounce of information available about the Old Nichol.
Oh no, not only did I lose all of that, but I lost my notes for 72 chapters, including conversations between characters that were really good, as well as their full psychological make-up and assessments for each character.
Not only did I lose that, but I lost everything I have typed so far, too.
Now, I can retype my chapters. No big deal. Fortunately, I am not that far into the story where it will be a nuisance; however, I have to completely redo my chapter notes.
Because of this, there is no way in hell there will be a chapter upload this weekend. On my day off, I'll be spending the whole day redoing those chapter notes.
Fortunately, I have this entire story memorised, and I guess I can make it ever better the second time around. But still... I know I backed it up on my external. I *know* I did. I remember doing it, but it's not there. Of course I'd back this up on a second drive. I know I did. I don't even know how to call what I am feeling right now.
Disgust? Disappointment? Crushed? Flabbergasted? Completely and utterly dumbfounded?
Go on. Pick whichever word you like. T'is the life of a writer.

FA+

That really SUCKS!!!
also, when i saw this post on both accounts i was like " .... is...this a meme?"
For that sort of work, I would have it backed up on at least 2 locations not including the computer you worked on to make those notes.
If you can manage to gather all that research once more, I think it would be best to make backups on a CD-R, DVD-R, or to keep a full copy on a computer just in case...'cause that's a lot to lose, and nothing backed up x.x...
*Hugs* Best of luck...
Also, the company threw the flash drive away after deeming it useless, so poo. :(
...still, there's no use crying over spilt milk...I'm glad you seem to be feeling better though...
