Which is worse?

Here's a question I was thinking of today: Which is worse to you, in an art trade? A quickly-forthcoming drawing that took mediocre effort on the part of the other artist, or a very well-done drawing that took them a long time to come up with?
Because I can tell you what you'll get with me, and it ain't Jiffy Lube. xD

FA+

But of those two... probably the first one.
=^.^=
But yeah... I'd go with what Oogzie said for being the worst...
=^.^=
I dunno exactly how to try harder, or half ass myself, so if someone puts their heart and soul into a trade i jsut feel horrible, because i'm unable to up my game accordingly...
if they half azz on it, i'm still glad that they actually drew something at all.. but then i feel im doing too much in return, a little.. sorta.
i guess ill go with putting their whole soul into it.. cause i cannot awesomize myself ;~; atleast, i don't think i can..
I know I was pleased with what you gave in our trade, even though I haven't finished my side of it.
After all, the commission is THEIR work with MY ideas - I want it to reflect well on BOTH of us.
As for which is worse for general pics, they both can be bad. If an artist feels they "owe" it to their fans or something, and burns themselves out trying to create museum-quality pics on a daily basis, then the lack of art is worse than a slew of the low-effort pics (which are often done for fun)... Not to mention the unhealthy stress of trying to keep up with expectations and such.
I like to see artists try their best, so I just wait to see what they come up with. Even if they don't make an exhausted effort.
I've known & dealt with cats that are quicker than the human eye to hammer out tight shit(including your's truly on VERY rare occasions*)! Being an artist y'self you can usually spot when there was'nt much effort put into somethin'.
But the agreement was: "que pro quo" an all that. So logically its an even swap. Afterall, if that person respects you enough, this should'nt even be an issue, or if ya aint happy with their end and ya feel it was a crack deal gone bad, TELL EM! In the end its all about "respect". Respect as in they put forth the effort to give ya sumthin' tight & not just shove somthin' your way just to get'cha out the door.
If it's online, don't mind how long it takes as long as they put their heart and effort into the piece.
However, at conventions, if you're wanting to do a ton of sketchbook trades with people and they are taking a while to do their half, it's bad.
Just because I can't remember the dreams doesn't mean I never wake up screaming. Do you know how weird that is? To wake up out of your mind, and to not know why?
It's just crazy.
And I really don't think either one of the options is worse, it's just a matter of patience.
Did some in 2002-4 and I'm still waiting :V
On one hand they did what looks like crap work ad put a ribbon it saying 'Here's my work now let's see your work so that It looks more like a free commision over an Art Trade!'
on the other hand... You do one of your best works then get blown out the water with the other half and your looking at your work like your the fuck up...
^^;... So far I've only been at the second option... Sort of... :P... Did an art trade with Evhor and Virus-20 and both seemed to turn out Like I did a half assed job... <,<;... But then hey... at those times my skills were not as good as now. ^^;... but back on subject. I'd have to go with both seriously. either way someone's gonna feel like they got/did a half assed job so why bother thinkin on it unless you did as Blade said, Put your heart and soul into it.
One, you get into a trade with someone who draws not so well- and it's usually bad when it's with someone you don't know. A friend I don't mind at all.
Two, you get into a trade with someone who draws WORLDS BETTER than you, and you feel like an asshole when you finish your trade, seeing how poor your skills are and that you're not worthy. :B
But to answer the question directly, I'd have to give bigger raspberries to the quickly-hacked-together entry, since I always try to do justice to the other artist's character.
Oh sure, single ME out. o_o;
I often drag it on for weeks or months because I just can't get "near" what I'm trying to draw (or who, as the case has been so far) and then it all comes in one half hour. So, fast isn't necessarily bad, the big work is figuring out what I am drawing and seeing it clearly. I'm slipping off topic but...
Bottom line, there's still the feeling whether there's heart in the pic or not, to me anyway.
