Read It.
That's right...you didn't read that wrong. The site known as e621.net is oficcially down and offline for good. some asshat finally did it. They finally screwed over the host for bullshit reasons, and they won.....
I don't know if any of you know this, but I, like many of you here and on deviant art who are furry art enthusiasts, used e621 to see what art I have missed, or was not familiar with yet.
e621 was one of those gateway sites that would show you what new and was already out there and would give you the link to where it was found. This site was pretty much a shrine to art that you could never find, dedicated to telling you who's who and what's what and where it came from.
If it wasn't for e621 I wouldn't have found a lot of you artists here on F.A. or have seen what sort of art you have made. Same thing goes for a good number of artists on Deviant art and other art hosting sites.
A greta, user-friendly forum site which helped me find everything I could have ever wanted to see....is now down....a great giant in helping out the deprived and the uninformed, and the future watchers and subscribers to the sites where the original images were hosted.....has fallen....hard.
Now while there is a small number of thousand of you who are singing "Ding-Dong, the witch is dead", More than millions of us who are not automatically web-surfer-savvy are droning out a funeral march.
I hope you douchebags who are responsible for this are fuckin' proud of yourselves. Because you just cut off one of your biggest veins for fan recognition, and lost millions of images by artists who are unknown or too little known out here in the fandom, or to the interested public.
Good job.
I say we make a petition to bring it back.
Fuck these assholes, the internet is the internet.
If it ain't your bank or credit account getting stolen, then don't bitch.
Especially don't bitch if you're not currently working for a Hollywood company (which the extreme majority of the now lost images had no ties or relation to, professionally).

FA+

I don't understand it, I was on e621 jsut a few hours ago and everything seemed fine... how could this happen so suddenly? who did it... why arn't their heads on pikes yet? what can be done to bring it back.... I want my easy to view and browse furry porn gallary back!
The web host then yanked the site, since it was against their TOS to host such images.
The guy who owned the site should have patrolled it and actively removed this form of artwork, but then again he refused to removed copyrighted work when the artist asked for him to..
To the point artist would have to go to extreme legal measures to get their private artwork that they did not give permission to be posted. Especially when the images were only supposed to be available through their personal paysites, while E621 made money off of people by posting that artwork and gaining donations / ad money in exchange for posting such work., and the artist (who made the artwork) lost money to E621.
People go there, see art they like, follow art source back to FA.. watch artist they otherwise didn't know about, fav their work.. commision them. Big profits for all :D everybody hugs, everybody dances.. cookies for all. And all that :p
Ok yeah in all seriousness e621 had its problems.. I must have tried for weeks to get a piece of artwork I uploaded there taken off (it was worse than pulling teeth let me tell you) But since I do owe about half my watch list to artists I first found out about on that site.. I'm forced to be lenient towards it :p
I say reupload the site... put on more admins to watch patrol and remove cub porn from the site since it causes so many problems.. and be more strict/follow through with their DNP policy and being quicker in their deletion of flagged artworks.. that would solve it :D
Oh and the person who reported them is apparently
And posting personal images that are the artist's pay site only. Because you do not want to pay for the right to view them. The way most artists can continue to make money, and make a living.
There is also a difference between being asked to remove it nicely by the artist, and doing so. And being a gigantic dick and refusing to do so until the artist files for legal help to do so.
Most image boards that are similar to E621, will remove the artwork under the artist's request, without them having to go through legal documents to have it removed.
It was IK who reported them (insanekangaroo) I knew of this already.
So it was not false accusations there, kiddo. It was real accusations, on which their host then strolled over, took a look, and went 'Well fuck, this is alarming, we do not approve of this!' and yanked it.
Just because someone tattled on them, does not mean he is the bad guy.
.... hmmm now that I think about it I do recall seeing a few weird bestiality and school girl hentai pic's that didn't belong on that site.. But those could have just been deleted from the site without the need to remove the entire site from the web to satify one crazy gunman's personal grudge against the site owner :p
For the most part e621 didn't have human kiddy porn on its pages (apart from the occasional upload that to my knowledge was deleated when it was found)
I"m not saying I have all the facts. But it seems to me that trying to get an entire website taken down just to satisfy a personal grudge Like Insane_Kangaroo did is just childish and over kill..
Its a good thing the site is coming back ;D.. hopefuly with stricter modorators under the new owner.
It seems we must agree to disagree on this issue I surpose :p. nice debating with you Zippiner.
Also:
Yes, they hosted Loli and shota. Which are DRAWN versions of child porn. Drawn versions of underage characters are indeed just as illegal at the real deal.
Someone didn't have a wank grudge. Someone did the right thing and told their provider about how badly TOS was being broken.
On FA, if you violate TOS, you get banned
On a host server, your site gets the plug pulled.
In the laws you can get away with actual.. Well cubs. Because cubs are not human, although most cub porn teeters a fine line, since it is anthropomorphic.
I have no problem with the genre, I'd rather have people look at that, than go diddle real kids. But you can and will be charged in the U.S. if they want to, and find you.
I mean, saying making it illegal is unconstitutional, is the same thing that is going on with Gay marriage currently. It's unconstitutional to keep two people of the same gender from getting married, yet it is still illegal in most states to be married if you are gay.
It's not going to change the fact that if you want to do it, it's not right in the eyes of law.
As for his charge, he was charged because he didn't contest or fight the charges. It IS illegal. The law was overturned around 2008 I believe.
Thus making it illegal, and giving them something to go after you for.
If you're going up against obscenity law for that, you don't have too much of a chance.
But I think they moved to a different out-of-US server after the Russians shut them down for the same thing.
That was Germany they were hosted in originally, and it wasn't just the drawn material they got shut down for, the host didn't permit adult content so basically they were breaking the contract they'd agreed with the host.
THere are proper ways to do things, this site was not doing it properly, and so, they eventually got canned.
I love sites like this, but only if they respect owners of the art wishes. they where idiots to the last minute.
And so life go's on.
no worrys, someone will take his place and hopefully will be wiser.
Fact is though, e621.net would have never gone under if it wasn't how Arcturus ran it. The lack of respect for artists, the DMCA issues and other problems were why e621 got such stick. Why don't you go ask Arc why he felt that shooting the goose for a single golden egg was really necessary? Cos he basically abused quite a few artists, the site might have been useful to you, but to many people it was that piracy site run by a guy who was basically unpleasant to everyone.
The problem is most sites like e621.net are run in such a way that they cause more harm to artists than they help anyone. If you keep hurting the people who are producing the artwork you love, then eventually they'll stop producing the artwork.
Plus.. the comments I've seen on my images there are never good (plus its not furry, so I have no idea what it was doing on that site), so I don't really.. get the whole 'publicity' thing. It doesn't seem to help me. (They haven't even labeled them correctly half the time. haha) It just feels like the equivalent of bathroom scrawl. Sure, that phone number might help some, but for me.. no thanks, I'll look into my own advertising.
I'm not much of a fan of these image boards.
Some stuff from a friend of mine (I wont mention names, he's tired of that shit) that he had shown to only a certain group of people all of sudden ended up on that site. We tried politely to ask Arc to take it all down, but took us helluva lot to convince him to do so.
It's funny how some people keep claiming how every single fact about his behavior is a lie, when some of them barely even know him or anything about his past behavior.
Unfortunately some people believe everything someone tells them or think that just because someone is their friend that they're a good person and wouldn't do any of the things they're known for.
Yeah, I've seen people stick their fingers in their ears even in the face of direct proof.
They did NOT help artists make money, they made money on shit that wasn't there by all the ads.
Get the fuck over it.
