Go Team Tolerance!
I read some weird shit on the responses to my last journal..I mean, DAMN!
There was a collection of people from the whole spectrum of fandom. You had your badly burned, blind by past butt-hurt artists; the ass-kissing, barely enough experience with butt-hurt wind-bag artists; No experience with situation but with flapping their gums ass-kissers to the artists;and artists who care about the butt-hurt, but are not entirely concerned because they know better and only agree with the kevitchers as far as they can be thrown...
(those would be the people such as me and others like me).
Then you get your fans who are aware of the butthurt that was caused and why, but they can't see the full importance of it all; the next sort who are slightly similar, but they're beggars and not choosers; and then there are the people who couldn't give less of two shits about butthurt one way or the other and are sick and tired of somebody opening up old wounds by making a mighty mountain out of a molehill because they need to get their "Hate-fix".
Here's something that I don't get about why people were complaining about e621.net. There were guidline, rules, and stipulations, that while I was searching the site, were strictly followed. And if those rules weren't followed then anythig that got posted was taken off without even the need of an artist needing to bitch. There was a list of artists that yo couldn't post stuff of unless it was already publicly available, and their public art, not their sold art or art that was for sale, was referenced and given links to for the sake of people seeing what was new. I saw some great art by artists that was all old art anyway that they had posted on public sites everywhere else. In fact there was quite a couple of artists who frequented the site (not just lolicon furs or babyfurs or any of those types), who endorsed e621, and either saw their art posted there, or posted their stuff there themselves, just for the fun of it.
Attention all my fellow artists......
This is the typical attitude of the greater majority of our audience:
If you are an artist, and you want the equivalent $25.00 to $40.00 dollars for a single image or thin booklet of images which are just going to be printed up by a printer, and not actually drawn by hand with pencil or straight-from-the-pen ink, and you have not done anything famous like a comic book (NOT-A-WEB-COMIC) that has run for more than a year or two, worked IN comic-book publications or magazines that frequently features your work, or have had your art displayed in a tangible piece of entertainment like a movie, or album cover.....
suck a crusty choad, shove another up your ass,
sit...
and...
spin...period.
If you can't accept the attitude of the audience you're doing this for, then either quit and eat crow, or grow the fuck up and make money off of not kidding yourself.
Think about this good and hard, folks...these are the same weirdos that we tolerate on a daily basis and they usually ignore us if we don't make gay, deeply disgusting, or erst-while sexually and aesthetically confusing art, and yet sign our praises when we Do.
Show of hands...
How many of you have made more money by drawing a whamadoodle in a place where you know it's not supposed to be, or drawn something that you know decent, hard-working people would find horribly shocking or offensive?
And furthermore, a lot of you who draw these disgusting things actually enjoy it from the get-go, or learn to enjoy it over time.
Hell, look at Doug Winger...at first he was perfectly content to just draw regular porn with more realistic proportions on everything...but then he was turned...Why? It got him more attention, and by that means, more money.
Same goes for Robert Guthrie, Steve Martin, Roxikat, Richard Foley (Moonstalker), Wolf Kidd, Malcolm Earl (Max Blackrabbit), Fred Perry, the fucking list just goes on.
Hetre's another shocker....even if they have already seen your shit on some free site, and the image hoster didn't claim any ownership of the material, and the viewers didn't have to pay anything for it, which is 99.89 out of 100 times the case, then it's NOT fucking "piracy".
And chances are, even though they have already seen it on this non-pirate site....they still want to find the artist's original hosting site, and try to buy this already-seen material directly from the artist in hard earned money...
Money they, the fans/consumers could be using for groceries or gas.
So listen to this question very carefully, and think VERY hard about the answer you are going to give...
Why are you bitching about your art being hosted on free sites that only take donations by chance, especially when they mention your name as clear as day for all to see, and ask people to go and look at more of your art straight from the source?
