I just got off of Skype video chat with my mother, and she had some bad news for me. My cat, who has been suffering from terminal liver cancer, had to be put down. He had gotten to the point where he was unable to get comfortable, was constantly sick, and wasn't eating. I am going to miss him, he was a wonderful cat. We are having him cremated, but after that I don't know what's going to happen. We'll probably scatter his ashes in the woods, someplace nice.

You know, it's funny how we take things for granted. Rascal was a constant. Every time I came home from being out, he was always right at the door like a dog. When you were lonely, he'd come curl up next to you. He was attached to my heels like a shadow, and for fourteen years this was the norm. Now he's not around anymore, and I somehow miss him more than ever, even though I haven't seen him since I came down to Florida a month ago.

I left never expecting to see him again, but it's still a real blow.

Rest in Peace, Rascal; and we will all miss you dearly.
