An artist is best described as having transitional moods. We work better and more motivated when we receive tons of praise. Faves annd comments from my past works are what keeps me going. My opus seemed to be in 2005, when I was emerging from my shell and into my own both as a person and as an artist. I crafted a lot of works I'm REALLY proud of from then until now. Some more better then others. I'm reallyl greatful for all the kind words, faves and comments. :)
Which brings me to my point. Like I said, artists have transitional moods. And when submitting, it's almost like a popluarity contest. I know I may not have a lot of followers in this kind of genre compared to others. A sketch from someone well known here will get like 50 faves within an hour. Because that person's well known. I don't do cons, or badges (unless asked, hasn't happened yet) or any of the like. It makes me feel such a novice to post here when other artists are of a higher caliber and more experience in their software and trade. I'm a humble guy but it sucks that my work goes ignored at this site, just because I don't do no furry porn or fetish or meme art.
With that said, I think I'll only post here sparingly from now on. Just a useless whiny rant, but something I need to get off my chest. BUT! I will be faving and keeping an eye on a lot of artists here, some of whom I've talked with and known online for years. Artists like Ivybeth (whom I've got a lot to thank Photoshop wise), Teaselbone, Reginho, Cody Frost (aka Vince), Spunky and so so so much more (you know you are ^_^). Keep an eye out of me in DA instead. And not to seem ungreatful of course. To all the KIND, AWESOME PEOPLE here who still watch and fave me, thank you! I will be answering your comments and notes still! God Bless!

FA+

Yes, mindless porn and memes are a quick ticket to popularity among furries... It's just one of those lame facts of life, like food poisoning and people who pop their bubblegum during movies. But consider artists like Astolpho and Rickgriffin (just to name two I recall offhand). Both of them specialize in very tame, PG art, and are both outrageously popular. The Clean Artist's Curse is nothing more than an excuse.
My opinion would be to stick it out. Increase your output, experiment with new forms of visual storytelling that would deeply resonate with people, try it for a while and see what happens. Of course, it's no use if it's not what you want to do, I'm just saying what I personally would've done in your shoes.
I don't follow many super-popular non-porn artists (I don't think there ARE many), but all of them are either professionals, had some large non-FA project, or both.
But to piggyback on what Sulacoyote said... exposure is the key don't be afraid to branch out, you can still keep your own morals because they help define you.
I haven't gotten around to commenting and faving on your works like I should, but I definitely will soon. I will always support you bro. Hopefully there will start being more notice of your excellent art!
Partially as an experiment, I've been dumping a lot of works out these past few months, all of it clean, and trying to keep on top of all the communication and comments and stuff. It's been exhausting and I won't be able to maintain it all year, but it HAS resulted in quite a few new people now. Compared to the minimal uploads I doled out previously (most of it more polished than the recent stuff), it's a lot more active. And people seem to appreciate knowing I generally reply back. So I'm just being more visible and people are like "hey, this artist is ACTIVE now!"
I've of course talked to you outside of FA and all, so *I* know you're cool, but I'm not sure if people know what to expect from you.
So just try to dive in more, rather than worrying if people will react. I'm pretty sure they will eventually when you're a more common fixture, so to speak.
I've seen a lot of your recent works. You've been quite the busy beaver.
