What is an Aerowolf?
Since I've got nothing else to do today and I felt in a mood for typing I decided I'd answer this question in better detail. My fursona is an anthropomorphic aerowolf, but what exactly is an aerowolf?
An aerowolf is a creature of my own design. In the same way someone thought up the dragon or the gryphon or the unicorn, I thought up the aerowolf. The exact origins of this come from my 10th grade biology class. An assignment we were once given was to develop an new breed of animal that fit the requirements of life. In other words design a creature that could exist but doesn't. I had this vision in my head of a white tiger with more zig-zagged stripes, but I figured that'd be a little to uninteresting. At this point I began tossing around ideas for the name of this creature hoping for inspiration of what it might look like.
In this I was exceedingly successful. I rattled off needed characteristics for the creature I was after and the first I thought of was aerodynamic. And the prefix of that word aero- was the start of it. I started thinking of already existing animals that I could add to this to make something and my favorite animal, the wolf, came to mind. "An Aerowolf?" I thought to myself, "Brilliant...!" And thus I grabbed my sketchbook and began scribbling. I went through about eight pages of possible ideas before I came up with one that I liked. I'll describe their physical characteristics below but so you get a little better idea I'll show you one.

I got an A- on the biology assignment =D
Now the origin story is over it's time to go into more details about the creature itself.
Basic description: Aerowolves are a very strange breed of creature that is both canine and feline. They possess physical and genetic connections of both. Their fur is rather short and is a pale white color. During their early years of life their coat is completely white but as they mature they will gain black stripes all along their body. By full maturity males can be roughly one and a half meters tall and three meters in length. While they mostly resemble a wolf with a cats head they have a few distinguishing features. Their tales are much larger than those of a feline or a canine, and it also bears two small floating rings on the very end. These rings are believed to identify gender among aerowolves. Females only have one ring while males have two. While they float unsupported, is a mystery... Another distinguishing feature are the 3 strange spines emerging from the backs of their heads. They are composed of very thin bone surrounded by sensitive nerves beneath the skin and fur. They are used as extrasensory devices to allow the aerowolf to detect vibrations in the air. For what purpose is yet unknown. The final main distinguishing feature of these creatures is their muzzle. Longer than that of a feline but shorter than any usual canine. A bizarre median between them. These features have surrounded the aerowolf with mystery and much desire to study them further, however, capturing them in the wild is near impossible.
Habitat: Aerowolves are primarily found in mountain regions of the world. First sighted near the summit of Mt. Everest, they've been found all across the world from the Himalayas to the Rocky's. The live in the snow topped mountains in order to make full use of their white fur as camouflage. They make use of the snow in other ways as well, such as building shelters for their families. They are amazingly intelligent animals that seem to understand the land they live on in ways that help them to survive.
Diet: Aerowolves are omnivorous, however they only eat vegetation when meat is scarce. Primarily they'll hunt large game such as moose and dear. They are not scavengers though and will not eat something they did not kill themselves. Surprisingly enough, aerowolves, when encountered in the wild, will not attack humans. They seem to be able to tell if what they're looking at is suitable prey and humans have fallen into the category of "not suitable". However that does not mean they will not attack if provoked.
Behavior: Aerowolves live in small groups called clans. These clans are normally made up of four to six members and are a very protective of one another. These clans are often assembled by siblings, and their mates and pups. There isn't much rivalry amongst these clans either so the temperament of aerowolves isn't very hostile towards others so long as there is no threat imposed. This might explain why they do not attack humans. So long as you do not pose a threat to them or their clan, they really have no reason to attack, so they don't. You can even get right up and sit next to one without fear. Just be careful not to get to close to their pups.
Mating Habits: Aerowolves are a strange breed of creature in that not only do they take only one mate, but they will remain with this mate for the entirety of their lives. The process by which they find a mate is similar to that of dragons. Males must present a female with something that they believe will entice her and should she accept it the two will be bonded for life. On average a pair ill produce four litters of about three pups in their lives. The intervals at which these births occur is about every four years. This will give time for the litter before to mature and go off on their own.
And there you have it. Everything you'd ever need to know about aerowolves. At least I hope so. If you have something else you'd want to know let me know please.
